Rebalanced AI Warfare and Expansion Logic

Beskrivelse
More coherent AI expansion and conquest decisions

AI conquest decisions that place greater weight on regional interests, while reducing opportunistic wars against much weaker states.

Or simply put: Less AI blobbing without nerfing the AI.

Why:

Vanilla EU5 1.0.10 AI feels overly aggressive for many players because it blobs and expands without judgment. At the same time, people dislike the passive AI of some earlier EU5 versions.
This mod addresses that by rebalancing AI expansion decisions to feel more statesmanlike, without reducing overall aggression, by adjusting whom that aggression is directed toward.

What it changes:

  • AI places less value on war targets that are distant from its capital, reinforcing regional expansion over long-distance conquests.
  • AI is less eager to attack significantly weaker targets, helping smaller nations survive and remain playable.
  • AI places more value on creating buffer states to weaken rivals by releasing countries in peace deals and hitting integration tolerance a bit sooner.
  • AI places more weight on antagonism and war exhaustion.

FAQ:

  • Not achievement compatible.
  • Should be compatible with any other mod (that does not tweak AI); load this mod last.
  • You can enable this mod mid-campaign. (It does not require a new game.)
  • This mod adjusts the weights of values in the existing decision-making logic when the AI selects a conquest target; it does not introduce any new game mechanic.

@danish rolls Whether I used a meme generator or an AI generator for a quick joke doesn’t change your in-game experience. A meme generator isn’t exactly more effort anyway. If you have actual feedback, I’m happy to hear it.

@dungROLLERbug With the RNG no two runs line up cleanly and I can not upload that many pictures but I get that more snapshots would be useful. Thanks for the feedback.

@Klonter77 von Planet77 Thanks for the suggestion. Yes, later-year screenshots would help to understand the difference. I don’t have the time to run another time-lapse right now but maybe in the future.

@pkf Thanks for the feedback. That was exactly the goal of the mod.

@B0mShakalaka Small nations are a great way to learn the game imo but streamers often recommend to play easier starting positions like Castile and then to automate most systems like trade etc. at first and then discover the game mechanics bit by bit. Good luck with your campaigns!

i do actually agree with klonter, add pictures of every 50 or so years and contrast them with what vanilla ai did in the same time frame
