This is probably not your fault, but the game infrastructure's fault. Yours isn't the only escape room where it happened and we even got it happening in some of the official DLC levels. It would have made the game impossible if we hadn't encountered it before in other levels so we realized what was happening.
It seems to occur when the two players have a long network lag (Me in the USA, him in Australia),and they both try to toggle a switch or lever at the same time.
Clues for the coins were a bit hard to find... but fun nonetheless. Keep going
