I found many hours of enjoyment in the first two Infinite Space games, and this is more of the same - now with 3D graphics. Its fundamentally the same proto-roguelite formula: pick a starship, explore a procedurally-arranged sector hoping for the wacky random drops to align, and then desperately try and head off whatever end-game condition you stumbled into.

I think the transition to 3D graphics is a bit of a mixed bag - the gameplay is still in two dimensions, and the low-poly 3D models aren't quite as readable as the detailed sprites of previous entries in the series.

Still, it's good fun, it runs on modern computers, and if you like procedural run-based games it's well worth checking out one of the OGs

I always have a soft spot for genre-mashups, and peggle-meets-roguelite is a very successful one. Regular patches have kept the game fresh, although I'd love to see even more content, as I've pretty much done everything now (albeit mostly on iPad, hence the relatively low playtime here on Steam), and I'm stil hungry for more.

This is one of my all-time-favorite tactics games. The limited ability to foresee the future turns it into a great puzzle game, and the optional mission objectives constantly prod you to find a more optimal solution. Also love the off-the-wall setting, and the way the narrative is conveyed

Early Access Review
Strong early-access entrant. Love the retro-spaceship aesthetic. Gameplay is engaging, though the dificultly curve probably needs a little tweaking here and there. Excited to see what new cards and mechanics will be added as development progresses

This is just the most gorgeous little art toy. I find it very soothing.

Space operas are in short supply, and if there's one thing that Rebel galaxy does well, it's nailing the feel of a space opera. Western-themes may be a staple of the genre (FireFly, StarCraft), but the soundtrack and environmental colour grading really help to sell the setting. Voice acting and facial animation are unexpected but welcome in a game at this price point.

Sadly, the gameplay does hold up in the long run. The grind escaltes throughout the game, and there isn't much increase in combat variety or tactical depth beyond the first couple of systems.

If you see this game on sale, pick it up for a few hours of unadulterated space opera. And if the developers decide to update the game (or release a sequel), I'm more than ready to come back to experience whatever they come up with.

Pros:
- Fantastic soundtrack reminiscent of Firefly (the TV show).
- Gorgeous 3D planets, nebulae, and asteroid fields.
- Broadsidebased combat in a 2D movement model feels like ship combat in Assasin's Creed, removes a lot of the issues these games usually face.
- Overall feels a lot like old 2D spacesim favourites like the Escape Velocity series.
- Warp/cruise system pretty good at reducing time spent staring at space (though not perfect).
- Choice of ship addons materially affects combat feel.

Cons:
- Enemy dificulty ramps very quickly, especially after the first solar system.
- Grinding for cash to buy bigger/better ships is tedious.
- Trade and mining are innefective ways to make cash.
- Story missions are very linear.
