I'm a Rome 2 fanboy, but I adore a lot of the changes Three Kingdoms brought to the historical titles for Total War.

TLDR; This is a campaign-centric game, one of the best Total War titles gameplay-wise. It has by far the most in-depth campaign map mechanics and I would put it in my top 3 Total War titles, ever.

Unlike some of the other Total War titles, this game in its current state does feel like a complete, full-packaged game. There are some empty parts of the map, in the south-east most of the regions begin uninhabited in almost every campaign scenario. The game also clearly shows the Korean peninsula, but it is an unplayable region. Unfortunately, 3K has been abandoned by Creative Assembly and we will never see any DLC for those regions.

3K adapts really well to its setting. You can tell there is a lot of love for the romance novel, and the art style is amazing. The combat is still within the "historical" style of formation-fighting, building balanced armies and managing political intrigue, but isn't afraid to create fictional formations, units, characters or events to create a really enticing atmosphere throughout the entire campaign.

3K is by far more difficult to actually play than Rome 2 or Total Warhammer 3, there are a lot of world events going on all at once and if your faction happens to be one of the important ones, you will begin getting swamped in political intrigue and constant wars. This is good! It's very fun to have actual campaign challenges, and the unique mechanics of 3K (the spy network, the family court and tree systems, and the coalition system) make 3K one of, if not *the* best Total War for players who want to spend more time on the campaign map.

3K does not sacrifice the enjoyment of the battle map, either. The terrain of the world still matters in 3K for battle maps, if you position your army on the campaign map to the northern mountains of an enemy army, you will engage the enemy army in the battle on a mountainside. The way 3K handles army building and management is far more interesting than the older titles and Total Warhammer's style of recruiting fully-replenished troops and heroes in a single turn, and you don't really have to worry about building a bunch of recruitment buildings.

This has the added benefit of allowing AI to recruit a wide range of capable units based on their economic strength and aggression-- late-game 3K will have you fighting late-game AI armies, unlike in Rome 2 or TWW3 where you will be fighting early-game armies all the way until long campaign victories.

Arma 3 > Squad

Still fun, regardless, I really do wish to see this infantry overhaul given a proper rework, though. The game has run horribly ever since for me, and the gunplay is so poor with how bad the recoil and stamina mechanics affect your aim (as a high-performing player in all different kinds of FPS, this has made combat feel very frustrating for me).

Do not be afraid to use your microphone, most people are very chill. Just don't engage with the negativity and if you have to, run off to another squad or server lol.
