Turbo in Dota 2 was meant to be a casual, fast mode, but many players try so hard because they don’t have a job, they don’t have a girlfriend, and for many of them, Dota is the only thing they really have in life. They are nerds who pour all of their time and energy into the game, so even in Turbo — a mode designed to be chill — they treat it like the grand finals of The International. The truth is, these players take Turbo so seriously because they have nothing else going on; winning a 20-minute match is the closest thing they’ll ever get to an achievement, so they act like it actually matters when in reality nobody cares.
