Every now and then I look back at the discussion board to see if they've added level crossings. Every time I'm dissapointed. This one thing absolutely ruined the game for me, where trying to cross a road is a faff of multiple steps fiddling with different tiles to get a stinking bridge to work right.

Simple answer, add level crossings or some sort of automation for bridging over roads/rails. Apparently that's too complicated, as there hasn't been any actual development on this thing for ages.

I'd honestly call it abandonware that the dev has the gal to still be charging for at this point. Don't waste your money.

This is absolutely unplayable as it is now. At least for me, it crashed when creating an avatar right after first launching. It crashes within 5 minutes of starting or entering a park. It was crashing within 30 seconds, but fiddling with Windows 10 compatibility settings got it up to a matter of minutes.

My machine is fairly up to date, only a year or so old. I've seen several people reporting constant crashes with Ryzen systems, so perhaps there's some issue there.

I really want to love this game. I've played tons of Planet Coaster, but something is seriously broken here.

Wait for fixes, refunded.

I never bothered to review this. Ah well, now it deserves it. The spectre of paid mods is back yet again.

As a modder myself, I would never accept a penny for something I made to mod another game. Never.

This is an interesting way to destroy any lingering goodwill, Bethesda.

Re-writing this review, since the developers did overhaul the input setup system. Great!

Previously I had experienced a lot of trouble with setting up the inputs, but the developers did address that lack. After that change I gave the game another shot, and was pleased to discover I could actually play it now.

The game offers a ton of customization options for the various race quads, which is neat. The flight experience feels quite accurate, and once you get into the swing of things can be quite fun.

I do hope eventually more environments are added, as it's a bit bare bones. But considering the pace of development, that's just a matter of time.

It would also be neat to offer players a wider range of quad flight styles. Right now they have the twitchy race quad nailed down pretty solid, but a slower more easy to get into experience might be good for players who don't have experience flying race quads for real. Something akin to a Tiny Whoop style, or lower tuned beginner quad setup.

Old review below for posterity.

It seems like the developers have gone for a minimalistic stylish gee-whiz interface when it comes to the controls. I ended up with 2 control axes inverted, and instead of a simple check-box like every other game ever to invert that axis you just have to auto-detect that axis and move it opposite of what the game prompts you.

Do you end up with multiple control axes with the center point way off? Well, tough cookies because the game doesn't let you adjust that. Spent a bunch of time farting around with windows controller options (Which shows my inputs as properly centered, contrary to what the game thinks), only to have nothing work at all.

The games auto-calibration is junk, at least for me. It ends up centering your sticks WAY off, then as I said you can't do anything to fix it.

Seriously, for a control-heavy game like flying a twitchy race quad, I would think giving the player a multitude of control options would be common sense.

Really want to like this, but until the control issues are fixed (Just giving options would do the trick!), refunded.

This is a game that I really want to like. I love sailing ships, I love naval combat. And this game is maybe 75% of the way there.

But here's the thing. There's literally no explanation of any mechanics in the game. I mean not a single one, there's no help page. No tooltips. No explanation of what things on the Worlds Worst UI do. No explanation about settings and things you can toggle on your ship. If you want to find any of this out, you have to go dig around the game forums, and read explanations of things that are out of date or don't help at all.

The players in game don't really answer questions either. I've seen several lost new players asking questions, and being ignored by the veterans in the chat channels. The playerbase obviously isn't putting any effort into helping the new people get a grip on a complex game.

The progression is absolutely glacial. I've played for 8 hours now, and haven't even gotten halfway through the first captain level. Even the gameplay gets glacial, once your ship takes enough damage and your crew takes enough casualties (about 5 maybe, it's insane) everything takes longer to do. Guns reload so slow you could watch a youtube video in between shots. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of slower-paced games, and wouldn't like to see this game turn arcadey. But as it stands, the pacing is just painful.

When it's on, it's on. It's great sailing into battle, broadsiding other ships. Until everything slows down. It looks like there's a lot of fun metagame in the faction conflict, but you're gonna spend ages grinding before you get out of your baby ship.

Wait until the developers get a clue before buying this. As it stands it's maybe worth $20, not the asking price.

Abandoned by the developer. Oh, you say that happens all the time with indie early access? Yeah, this was SOE, proving once again that SOE can't accomplish anything without infuriating everyone.

Do not buy this.

This is one of those games you really want to like, but can't.

The art style is excellent, the environments are fantastic looking, the animation work is top notch. But the gameplay is atrocious, mostly due to being a bad console port. The interface, the controls, they didn't bother to make sure things work properly on a PC.

There's also several showstopping bugs that can occur, blocking progress in the game. One of them is a basic error in the controls configuration file, but EA being EA hasn't bothered to fix any of the issues.

Avoid it.
