Review Showcase
This game is fantastic. It encompasses everything a CRPG should be! I daresay this may be Owlcat's piece de resistance.

I'm only 18ish hours in, but so far I am blown away. The branching paths, the amount of dialogue options, and the Warhammer worldbuilding is extraordinary. I've heard that a standard playthrough is anywhere from 60 hours to a whopping 130 (if you towards a more completionist style), and what's extremely fetching is that (so far) none of it feels like a slog. All of the side quests are interesting and quite compelling, and none of it feels like filler.

So far my only criticism is that much of the game lacks voice acting. However, what VA is present is very good.

Before playing this, my favorite games in the CRPG genre was Baldur's Gate 3, Dragon Age: Origins, and Disco Elysium. I would also rank Tyranny and KotOR 2 up there. Those game range fairly wide in complexity and difficulty. So having played those, I would say that Rogue Trader is actually a really good intro game for someone who is new to the genre and may be a bit intimidated by CRPG mechanics.

Highly recommend. Will update this review more as I progress in content.

Not only does it feature impressive spaceship combat, with its own skill tree and nearly a dozen gear slots for weapons, shields, and more—but it also offers a huge sense of exploration. The galaxy is absolutely massive, with intricate trading across multiple factions, each with their own reputation systems. There’s also a surprisingly engaging colony-management mechanic that lets you establish outposts, construct projects, and earn rewards like items, passive bonuses, and reputation gains. And somehow, despite all of this depth, it remains remarkably beginner-friendly for a CRPG.

I'm now a few hours into chapter 2, and wow. My experience thus far is only further proving that this is very well the best and most in-depth CRPG I’ve ever played. Chapter 2 introduces the Rogue Trader to space exploration It offers a huge range of systems, all of which feel meaningful and well-designed:

  • Spaceship combat
    • Dedicated ship skill tree
    • Different crew assignments that meaningfully change performance
    • Nearly a dozen gear slots for weapons, shields, engines, and more
    • Extremely polished, strategic turn-based encounters
  • Exploration
    • A genuinely massive galaxy to chart
    • Distinct regions with unique events and discoveries
  • Economy & Trading
    • Intricate trading across multiple factions
    • Each faction has its own reputation system
    • Choices that influence prices, availability, and relationships
  • Colony Management
    • Establish colonies across various systems
    • Build projects that unlock items, passive bonuses, and rep gains
    • Long-term growth systems that tie back into exploration and your empire

And somehow, despite all of this depth, it still manages to be a remarkably beginner friendly CRPG.
