It is a mixture between a Real Time Strategy game, where you manage a dungeon and a rogue-like where you take one character or a party of characters from your dungeon on an assault of enemy tribes. This mixture is rather special. I have played KeeperRL a lot every release. I am a serious fan.

Features it has are extensive modding support, Steam Workshop integration, z-levels, fighting other players retired dungeons, convertible prisoners, outside buildings, 3 keeper classes both good and evil, an adventurer class where you don't bother building a dungeon, between about 120 and 150 types of creatures and open source code.

Michal is a very open-minded developer. He will probably even help you compile his game from his own publicly available code. You can get the game for free in ASCII mode without sound. You can also buy the full game by donating to various wildlife charities. I'm in full support of the developer. He is generous as F. If you don't want graphics and sound and see no reason to support someone you don't know, there is a free version just for you. Check the web page.

You can see I have a lot of playing hours on this game. I have teamed up to write our own mod, which roughly doubles the vanilla features such as number of technologies, campaign villains, units, spells, traps, keeper classes etc. Honestly, it is fun to play and I play it a lot. Usually I play our own mod and code it. ("Coding" mods is really just drawing sprites and changing config files on Keeper). I have been known to let the game run unattended while I do other stuff, but the number of actual hours really must be pretty high.

The game does change a lot every release, so it is fun to keep coming back to it and see how it is developing. Although personally, I will feel sad when the game is "finished". Actually, I would be happy to see it evolve forever. Obviously the game is Early Access, so if you want to contribute to a game as it keeps evolving and like Rogue-likes and RTS games, you should love this.

Still do hobby programming in my spare time. I help maintain a wiki for KeeperRL and produced many mods.

Nothing but plans. I have paid for a publishing right for steam without committing to a design and losing my deposit. Can keep right to publish without spending it for now
