The Nationale Volksarmee according to NATO was one of the most powerful armies in the Warsaw Pact, despite having only 100,000 soldiers (Red Army included) due to the rigorous training and the modern equipment given to them by the soviets, it also enjoyed having members from the Wehrmacht as well.


The grenzerkomanie or Border guards of the DDR were a military force and the primary force guarding the Berlin Wall and previously the border between east and west Germany. Besides the USSR, the East Germans had the largest border guard service in the Eastern Bloc. It has been replaced by the modern day Bundespolizei, and look how good they are at keeping people out.
