Known in Counter-Strike as the 'AWP' the magnum sniper rifle is a deadly weapon with it's high powered shots it will kill any one in 1 single shot. ( Damage; Head: 459 )
The AWP does require a high level of skill when using it in a attacking role' & when under pressure'.
The smart way of using the AWP would be to offer support and cover for your team

There are a few things you should know about the gun that can help you use it to its fullest. The first thing is that it is quicker to just let the gun rescope on its own then to switch to your knife/pistol and then switch back to the awp (known as "quick switching").

Another tip is that if you are seen picking from a certain spot, take your shot then switch positions. Most teams will have their awper lock onto the spot you were just at and you will most likely get picked if you repeak that spot.

Lastly, make sure you are good with pistols, and use your pistol in close range situations.

This weapon is almost exclusively known as the AWP (Arctic Warfare Police), but is actually intended to be the AWM (Arctic Warfare Magnum).

~ AWP Tips ~

Tip 1: Never move and shoot with the AWP, 90% chance you will miss.

Tip 2: Try not to camp in one place with the awp aiming at only one direction or a particular place, high chance someone will either shoot or knife you from behind or the sides.

Tip 3: Dont always stay scoped in too long, scoped in takes away your ability to look around faster.

Tip 4: Always have a good hand gun with ammo with you, quick switch by pressing Q [left_alt] to shoot enemy if enemy gets too close and you dont have time to zoom in and shoot.

Tip 5: Move around a lot ! so it is harder for the enemy to shoot you, either by other rifles or the AWP, when you see an enemy, stop for 2 secs, zoom in and shoot, if you get used to it, you can do all that in less than one second.

Tip 6: Practice with the AWP as much as you can, i would recommend the maps awp_map and awp_greentide, best places to practice with AWP.

The scout is the cheapest sniper rifle, but does the least damage, taking two body shots or one shot to the head to kill somebody, and is bolt action, meaning the gun must be ♥♥♥♥♥♥ after every shot, taking time. The scout is the most accurate sniper rifle, and is very light, allowing for fast running speeds. The accuracy of the scout is such that it will still be moderately accurate while strafing, unlike the AWP.

If you are inaccurate don't use the scout, because if you are unable to hit people in the head you will be very ineffective with the scout. If you aren't very accurate, use the automatic sniper rifles instead, as they give you more opportunity to take repeat shots. Also, the scout is widely believed to be a pro gun, so if you are good with it that's great, but beware that it is known as a pro weapon because it is very difficult to use effectively.

With the scout it's best if you have a object near you to dive behind such as a wall or box. Locate the target, it's height etc and then jump out, zoom and take the shot. If you miss dive back and repeat the same again. As long as you go for headshots you should have no problem in killing quick & fast. A truly skilled sniper player will also rush with the scout. This is when you face high risk of close combat and in a fight between an M4A1 or AK you are a sitting duck.
