Well, then you can probably just use it de-facto if you join the Sith, or you can like say you took up a teacher who is imaginary or something.

Yeah, but normally someone has to teach you those techniques if you were a Padawan of some sort, if you were a trained Jedi you might've already learned it in some capacity but would abstain from it to prevent corruption.

Maybe basic isn't the right word perhaps common is better.

That is actually a fairly basic Sith technique.

Unfortunately, I don't know anyone with that ability. But you could like say you discovered some ancient archive or something on Korriban/Dromund Kaas which told about it.
