The Executive Directory was a body of five Directors that held executive power in France following the Convention and preceding the Consulate. The period of this regime, commonly known as the Directory era, constitutes the second to last stage of the French Revolution.

The way the government works is that we have 2 councils that act as either the lower house or upper house.

The lower house is the council of five hundred which is incharge of making a list of potencial candidates for the positions of directors. They are also a legislative which means they have the power to pass or veto any laws passed on by the Directors by vote. They serve a term of 1 month. There are 9 Councillors.

The upper house is the Council of the Ancients which acts as the senior body that chooses which people on the list of directors actually become directors. This list as stated above is given by the council of five hundred. They also act as a legislative body meaning they can veto or pass laws like the five hundred. The list can only contain ten people; the ancients serve a term of 1 month. There are 3 Senior Councillors.

Finally we have the directors who are basically the men who run the government. There are five, and they each have the executive power to rule equally. They run a term of 1 month.
