The 6th Texas Irregulars

The 6th Texas Irregulars Were A Mixed Group Of Irish, German, Hispanic, And French Soldiers, Who Fought Under Colonel Le`Roy O`Finnegan, In The American Civil War. The Regiment Was Formed With Two Companies: Company “A” O`Finnegan’s Bayonets And Company “B” Major Moonshine’s Battery. The Regiment Was Mustered Into Service In 1862, Near Galveston, Texas. The Regiment Departed Galveston With 96 Men, Expecting To Pick Up Various Volunteers Along The Way To Charleston, Virginia. By The Time They Reached Their Destination, They Had Around 190 Soldiers In Their Ranks.

By 1865 The Regiment Had Been Disbanded, And Soldiers Had Been Mixed Into Various Confederate Units. Colonel Le`Roy O`Finnegan Lived To See The End Of The War, But Weeks Later He Was Found Dead In The Street With A Gun Shot Wound To His Neck.
