7/10. This is a fun game, so I'm happy with it. But let me tell you what it's not, lest you come with wrong expectations.

This is not a Jagged-Alliance-like tactical shooter. This is instead more like a classical RPG set in a post-apocalyptic world without magic. You defeat your enemies mostly based on your stats and items, not tactical maneuvering.

See, in JA games, every battle would start with the enemy having a defensive advantage and you trying to break in. You'd try to locate and then approach the enemy positions while doing your best to avoid exposure. In Wasteland, it's almost the opposite: You can practically turn most combat encounters into an ambush that you are setting up: You'll walk around with your high-stealth character for reconnaissance, see the enemy before they even know about you, place your men in advantageous positions, and then open fire. Later in the game, battles often end with the first half-turn: I kill everyone with the first barrage of fire before the enemy can even get the chance to shoot a single bullet.

But it is satisfying in its own way. The world-building is good. Items are interesting. The writing is quite funny at times, especially the Reagan jokes. There are some choice to make, depending on whether you think a post-apocalyptic wasteland can afford to have anything beyond the most rudimentary kind of political order.

Didn't have any heart for me - love CRPGs, but world has no life, satire is forced and overplayed, and characters feel irrelevant / unrelatable.
