The gameplay was fun enough with decent metroidvania style gameplay. Perhaps a little easy, especially the bosses, but I was happy with that. The real problems were the combat scaling and the story, primarily the latter. Combat scaling was definitely an issue with the final bosses in a 100% playthrough offering almost no challenge. Still, part of me liked seeing a metroidvania that offered the ability to out scale bosses, as bosses in metroidvanias have never been something I really enjoy.

The real problem is the story. Particularly the ending. The game spends a large amount of time pushing the story of the game with many zone transitions forcing you to watch a cutscene of characters doing things elsewhere in the world. A bit heavy handed on dropping lore, but not dissimilar to something like playstation 1 era final fantasy games. It was odd, but quaint. The problem is that the ending proceeded to be the single worst ending I have ever seen in a video game or any story, that I've ever seen. It was abrupt and didn't respect the player. It was the worst method I have ever seen of sequel baiting and passed the torch from the main character that I liked in the story to the deuteragonist that was... well, not very interesting. This is the more objective take and leaving out twice as much in terms of personal subjective frustrations with the ending.

For a game that I got on sale for very cheap it was barely worth that very cheap price. About 14 hours for a near 100% playthrough for something like $8. The fact it left me upset from a truly awful ending kind of got rid of any enjoyment that I had gotten from it before that, however. If you want a halfway decent metroidvania to run around and explore, it's... fine. For anything beyond the pure mechanical enjoyment of that it was awful.

A very good metroidvania. This one is a lot more forgiving than most. The only real downside to this game is its ending. Its very abrupt almost like you got the "bad ending". Still a good game.
