The Objective
VIDEO PROOF
UPDATE 1: Now SNIPER RIFLE and SHOTGUN are recommended to go with your shield. This unfortunately cannot be changed in the video.

The objective is defeat the stage boss as Athena, landing the killing blow with Aegis.

It sounds easy but only 0.1% of players have unlocked it, mainly because most people are relying on pure luck or simply have builds that's not helping the objective. This guide explains:
(1) How the shield works to damage
(2) The best strategy to go about it, how to position yourself etc.
How Aegis works & Positioning
How Aegis works

The Athena's Aegis shield works a lot like an explosive reactive armor on a modern battle tank. (Image 1)

When an enemy minion touches it, and when Athena has a shield ready, it sends out a cone blast which relies on SIZE to increase its blast range, which also mitigates damage to you. This consumes 1 Aegis charge. Number of Aegis you can have is scaled by PROJECTILE COUNT.

To recap:
Number of shields you can save- Projectile count
How far it blasts - Size
How fast you generate shields - Attack speed

How to ensure the shield is the last one to finish the boss
How you want to position yourself is to have minions between you and the boss, instead of body bumping the boss, so the minions activating the blast will get the boss and not your spike damage. (image 2).

Setting up the boss fight
The most important thing to keep in mind is the minion waves.

The first minion wave spawns at 6:00, then the second one at 3:00. What we want to do is kill the minions NEAR the boss gate so you have all the items like nukes, time stop, heals, burgers, invulnerability shields littered around the boss to help you cheese the fight and have you focus on doing the last hit. Things like nukes will also help you clean up the minibosses, which spawns at 7:00 and 2:00.

Builds
Weapon -
To max out shield last hit chance, I recommend not to take any other weapons other than the shield, sniper and shotgun. You can RIGHT CLICK to manually aim your shotgun and sniper away from the final boss to make sure all hits are from your shield. This is of course optional, as seen in the video just the shield can often be enough.

Keep upgrading your shield whenever possible especially projectile counts. Use all REFRESH first, then use SKIP and BANISH to avoid weapons.

SNIPER RIFLE and SHOTGUN are both great options as a supplement weapon because they can be manually AIMED AWAY (RIGHT CLICK) therefore optionally activated to help you with swarms but not last hit the boss by accident.

Tomes -
  • Quantity - VERY important, increases shield count you can store
  • Size - Very essential, this increase the blast range so you are more likely to hit the boss
  • Attack speed - Increase charge rate
  • Damage / Crit - Makes your work easier, especially the crit tome allows sudden explosive damage
  • HP - Makes you tankier, optional
Shrine picks
  • Jump +1 - Allows you to escape the mobs with a double jump in the air
  • Attack speed, boss damage, crit rate are all great picks
  • If you can, get 15-20% pick up range so you can soak up all that exp the minions drop the moment they die.
  • Power up drop chance - A good pick as we will be stacking power ups near boss gate

Item picks
BURGERS - Often useless due to low heal rates. However with our strategy we will have many burgers near the boss gate.
2-3 moldy cheese can do wonders on taking down mini-bosses, just watch the purple bar to make sure they dont last hit the final boss for you.
Legendary items - If you do luck out with legendary items, just make sure they are not things that will accidentally last hit the boss for you. Za Warudo, speedy boi are good picks for this mission.

Recommended time schedule
  • 10:00 to 7:00 Explore the map and capture as many charge shrines / boxes / moais as you can. Find the boss gate. (Boss gate can always be found under 2 mins) Try to find +1 jump when possible.
  • 7:00 to 6:00 Don't waste time on the boss, just use this time to walk to the boss gate instead to prepare for the swarm at 6:00.
  • 6:00 to 3:00 If you have stacked a few items after wiping out the swarm, go back to explore a bit to get more shrines, just make sure you return at 3:00 for the second swarm wave. We want to stack power ups on the floor.
  • 2:00 Second miniboss, recommend that you spawn the stage boss with the gate right away. The more time you have the better.
What NOT to do
- Do NOT get any other weapons other than the original shield, sniper and shotgun. This increases the chance of your shield doing the last hit to 90-100% (less any moldy cheese you get) both sniper and shotgun have a manual aim mode, unlike most weapons.
- Do NOT pick high damage weapon if you are forced to pick a weapon because you have no reroll / skips / banish, pick one that's LOW damage, or ones you can point AWAY from the boss ie, sniper rifle and shotgun.
- AVOID body bumping the boss - Your passive spike can have a chance to do the last hit instead of your shield.

The Reward - Quin's Mask
After completing the quest, you can now unlock Quin's Mask which is like a budget soul harvester, as long as you have at least 1 thorn damage that is. The 50% AOE also allows you to proc other on hit effects like cheese, a reasonable epic
pick up.

Also using boss shrines might be a good idea, since the achievement doesn't care as long as you kill at least one of them with aegis

Updated the guide, the video can't be changed but sniper / shotgun helps since they can be aimed away

What magik said is spot on, the sniper makes the run signifcantly easier.

I almost got this multiple times, then tried it with only one weapon as described here. With only one weapon I was stuck for 4 hours, not even able to kill the swarms and never able to get near the boss as there were so many mobs left. Then I purposefully took the sniper as second weapon, shot the boss nearly dead with manual aim, turned the sniper away from the boss and only did the last hit bonking into the mobs between me and the boss - first try.
highly recommend sniper as second weapon
