Early Access Review
If you're looking for exploration over combat this game is for you. Pretty chill so far. Boat around and discover things. Fighting isn't too hard when you need to do it. Is fun exploring and goofing off with friends.

One of the best turn based tactics games I've ever played. There are very few things I would change about this game, and all of them are QoL related.

Gameplay gets repetitive. Lots of fetch quests. Doesn't matter. Game looks amazing. The level design is crazy impressive. World feels alive. Spent a good amount of time walking around on purpose just to look at the details. Soundtrack is also great. This has been one of the more memorable games I've played in a while.

Early Access Review
There is a lot to do in this game right out of the gate. Some of the usual early access game quibbles around balance and bugs. Resource gathering feels rather grindy solo, but with PvP and clan focus I can see why that might be a trade off for solo players to deal with. Camera is a bit goofy and hopefully devs consider integrating some changes people have already created mods to address. It's easy to see the potential here for this game to be something great.

Comparisons to Valheim don't seem entirely appropriate though. I get why people make the comparison but they're very different games. This world is full of life and things to interact with. Valheim has a wonderful sense of exploration of what feels like undisturbed nature. Have not had that same feeling in V Rising so far with all the towns and roaming NPCs. Combat has more options too with the gear levels and magic system. All the bosses to hunt and farm do feel Diabloish so that's a nice difference as well. I love Valheim. V Rising is different and already better in a few ways.

This is a game I wish there was a neutral review option for as it's just okay. Was recommended to me since I play Rimworld and I didn't look into the game enough before buying to see that it's not . Shame on me I guess. Have to say I'd rather build a cold zone Rimworld colony than play this again.

It seems to have become one of those games people decided is good "because it's hard" when it's only difficult because very little about how a few critical mechanics work is explained. Failed on my first attempt which was no big deal; have lost dozens of colonies in Rimworld. Read tips online for 5-10 minutes that explained mechanics the game never goes into detail on and had no problem at all second attempt.

So it's not hard if you learn more about the game than the devs tell you. It's also not really a free form city builder it makes itself out to appear to be. You're confined to a crater and have to build within that predetermined grid. Might be what some people are looking for. If you're here because you play Rimworld and this was suggested please read up on it in detail first as it might not really be what you're looking for.

Edit: 90 hours in now and the game just keeps pulling me back in with the exploration, progression and fun of building a settlement. Have been slow rolling taking on the bosses on purpose and just generally exploring each new island as I come across it. The combat at this point is more difficult but not a major challenge. Only thing really annoying are the damn mosquitoes but they fly straight at you so if you're quick with your bow you hardly even have to aim.

So far this is one of the best Early Access games I've ever played and a great survival crafting game on top. Doesn't really feel like one most of the time with all the content and how well it all works. Hope the devs keep at it because this could end up being an absolute gem of a game.

Running a private server with about 10 players jumping in and there have been zero bugs and only occasionally a bit of lag during world backup.

Only thing so far a bit odd is the building. Snap points seem to be an issue at times when more than a couple pieces intersect which I'm sure will get refined and is only occasionally a frustration. Fairly easy to build a simple dwelling and only gets fussy when you're trying to build something fancy.

If you like Left 4 Dead and Chivarly you will absolutely love this game. It's a nice combination of the two with an added loot system that makes replaying much more fun.

This game has been a great co-op experience for the time I've played. Unfortunately, Overkill has decided that they aren't making enough money to support their aggressive expansion plans and decided to add microtranscations to this game 2 years after it's release. These transactions are and add-on the the already nearly $120 worth of DLC with much of that required to be able to play the game in its current state. The transactions themselves are much like CS:GO and TF2 in that they're cosmetics. What is different is that the cosmetics add stats, and Overkill just nerfed many of the weapons in the game making it nearly mandatory to buy the new skins in order to have weapons that work anything like they did before the update.

All of these changes are being implemented because Overkill just tripled their staff and are planning to work on other games. In other words, they're asking you to go ahead and prefund their other ventures by purchasing game breaking cosmetics on top of spending $140 to play their game. Payday 2 has a very hardcore following and the community has asked that if microtransactions are staying that they atleast be cosmetic only so they don't break the game. Overkill responded by saying the transactions are staying and they're planning on making stats gained from skins a central part of the game play which of course will force you to buy them. They did finally add the ability to unlock skins for free after a week of bad press, but the drop rate is so low it's insignificant and you may get a skin that's for a DLC item that you haven't purchased yet meaning it's entirely worthless until you buy the needed DLC.

Now, I'm a reasonable person and understand that it costs money to make games and that the purpose is to make something people will like and a profit at the same time. Slapping microtransactions onto a 2 year old game with a dedicated fanbase because you made some poor management decisions is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Especially when the players have already paid $140 to play the game. Gamers aren't an ATM, and the Payday 2 community doesn't appreciate being treated as such.

This is a great game, and I'm not even a fan of the series. The environments look so good that I actually 100% every area instead of just playing through the story. Only thing I would change are the QTEs and cut sceen action which are kind of annoying in that you're constantly watching the bottom of the screen to mash buttons instead of watching the action. They're way too prevalent at the beginning of the game, but once you get in a ways they scale way back.
