if you like a consistently stale meta and a developer who spends their time developing an AI announcer (lord help us) instead of giving us permanent alternative formats or any meaningful QoL updates, then buddy, this is the card game for you

it's not that it's a bad user experience, necessarily. connection issues are sparse and the UI is responsive. there's lots of customization options, and it isn't far fetched to stay a completely free user. the main issue is with the TCG itself. you'll wait a full fiscal quarter for their new set only for none of the cards to be of any help shaking up the meta. rinse repeat this for a year until an archetype so powerful is released that everyone on the old top tier decks immediately dumps those strategies in favor for the new hot stuff. there's no futureproofing the game, no rotation to keep decks from dominating a meta for too long (just an insanely ineffective banlist that they sporadically release), and quite literally nothing to do other than play the single ranked format or against the "story mode" bots if they don't have an event running. and the nature of the powercreep means the best decks in the format will almost always be either faster or harder to respond to than the decks that existed previously- and for so long as the sole competitive format is eternal, that pattern will not change.

if you like ygo in the current state it's in, then this game might actually be right for you. but if you're used to how other TCGs operate, i don't think this will be an enjoyable experience.

I have more than 200 hours on this game, so I can safely say the diseases I caught playing it were not worth it.
