Gray Zone Warfare is not anywhere near complete, but it has the bones of an incredibly fun game. While the combat can be intense, it still encourages you to take your time and think of a reasonable plan to approach each situation rather than rush in guns blazing (if you try to play it like it's COD, you'll end up frequently dead). And while it's like an extraction shooter, the flexibility to move around the map by helicopter means you're not limited by round timers, only by your ability to scrounge supplies in the field and your mission objectives.

If you are not willing to be a playtester for the game, DO NOT BUY YET. Bugs are frequent and balance in things like economy and weapon choice isn't yet a priority while the devs build out major features. But if you're willing to live with a bit of a bumpy ride, GZW is such a fun experience.

Do you remember Shattered Horizon? Are you sad that it's dead and gone? Boundary is the spiritual successor, with some modern upgrades like matchmaking and customization progression.

Constrained optimization! Grid packing! Fuzzy moral dilemmas! A killer soundtrack! What more could you want?

I never thought this game would get localized. I never thought this game would get re-released, in any form. I'm still amazed it got a steam release.

Frostpunk is a city-builder with teeth. I've enjoyed all of the released scenarios, but I think the first (A New Home) is still the best at distilling the tension of trying to survive a seemingly insurmountable environmental challenge. The weather patterns are well-paced to put strain on your growing city without toppling it over, but the challenges grow in magnitude and urgency every time your city gets running smoothly. I think it's a great game.

Run out of bullets? No more teleporter charges? Didn't bring a crashbeam for that turret? Don't worry, just teleport a downed guard's gun to you and shoot an explosive room to suck all the baddies out into deep space. Even in the most dire of situations, there's probably some absurd way out of harm's way.

Firewatch is a great, if brief, escape from the day to day worries of city life in favor of spending a summer in the wilderness. The vistas are beautiful, the areas wonderful to explore, and the story is excellent.

And hey, this recent brigade of angry gamers can go pound sand. DMCA takedowns are ugly but prolonging systemic racism is worse.
