Has a lot of potential, but the UX/UI is awful - I never know what button to click, how to build something, or which menu to find where. It adds a ton of friction, and it just feels like doing anything has just too many steps.

Also can't figure out the tone of the game. It markets itself as "terrifying" but it quickly feels kind of silly with the sorts of items you find and the AI of the enemies running around. And the combat is jank.

I really wanted to like this game, but base building is a pain, inventory management awful, and the exploration aimless. What are my goals, and what am I supposed to be doing?

I couldn't tell if the game was going anywhere, and it was hard to know where to go/what to do. But the vibe was very haunting and mesmerising. You feel very alone. For that alone, I have to recommend. It makes you wish more games dared to be abstract and focus on atmosphere.

Venba was a beautiful experience - from the immigrant story to the cooking mechanics to the soundtrack. I love that the game is short and doesn't overstay it's welcome, and the mechanics are simple. It manages to tell a full story about culture through the food, and I can highly recommend. It made me hungry - and wanting to learn to cook the recipes!

I'm not sure I'll ever finish this game (because the depths scare me ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥), but I will keep trying because this game is amazing! So much to discover, love the way the story is told through exploring, and how you can do everything at your own pace. The underwater world is truly fascinating (and pretty scary 😬).
