After 22 years since its original release, I can't ask for a better remake than AOM Retold.
Transitioning from the old into the new has been seamless and I don't see myself looking back anytime soon!
Looking forward to new updates and continuous improvements after the game's release!

Minor additions that only long-term players would notice, such as 'Auto Scouting' and 'Sentinel' being castable on Fortresses are amazing and very much appreciated.

The various new additions that are too numerous to list and I am still discovering them (e.g. Nidhogg's new attack) are an amazing addition to the game.

The controls are smooth and reactive which really adds to the game's experience.

I absolutely admire the effort put into the new artworks. I know it is subjective, but I feel they are not equally perfect. Personally, the Egyptian and Atlantean's minor gods are perfect while the Greek and Norse's feels weaker. The new art for the major gods are *chef's kiss*.

If there are any future changes in terms of the game's art, I would suggest a more 'ancient' direction rather than 'cartoonish', which was what made the original so memorable. So far from what I noticed, it is getting there.

Unit animations definitely requires some work (this is my own opinion) E.g. Centaur's walking and attack animation look stiff and uncomfortable, Colossus's attack animation only has one variation which repeats and it looks stiff (compared to the original with three and they are each distinct and smooth, playing it for years I can't get enough of it). The original unit animation all have a lot of character into them, which is severely lacking in the Retold.

Whatever you done with Arkantos' updated voice. We love you. I really hope this direction is applied with the rest of the characters, as having a new voice with old AOM's direction would truly make this a proper remake. Personally, I am on the fence between just bringing in the old voices (similar to reusing unit voice lines, they make the game magical) and having a new voice-over. A new voice-over would be consistent with Arkantos' new voice.

The UI for units may need a rework. I find it extremely difficult to read a unit's stats (hack, pierce, crush armour) and also I'm upset the special attack bar for myth unit is removed. AOM has always been a very approachable yet hype-ful RTS due to its simple design that can still stir excitement when playing (e.g. the special attack bar communicates to players that this unit as something special in stall compared to the others, "go try it out"!)

AOM's original UI communicates exactly what something is, while keeping the advanced details for experienced players to read. The Retold tried to combine both equally which has lost some of what made AOM special (simple but effective and exciting for casual players while still including advanced details and stats for competitive players).

Another personal gripe, base-ending god powers don't announce themselves well in Skirmishes. I found myself often surprised to find my base (or the enemy's) deleted without a clear announcement. I also once found myself jump-scared by a Titan. A freaking Titan. I never had this issue in the original game, so this is something strange to me.

Overall, I am very happy with the remake of AOM and looking forward to see the Retold grow even more.

With childhood bias; a hypeful game of RTS classics. A campaign story worthy of the Gods.
