Lets get the minor negatives out of the way, first. It's a little rough around the edges in some parts. Storyline is a little all over the place, though it's still interesting and engaging despite that. There's a few UI bits that could use some polishing. And there's some visibility issues with some weapons and powers here and there. And there's some jank in netplay from time to time.

But aside from that? Holy moly, this is the closest I think we'll ever get to a roguelite that still captures the magic that is Megaman X/Zero. And then it throws a little bit of Mario Maker in for good measure? And you can actually play other people's custom-made level pieces AND full-on levels?! AND the pixel art is gorgeous, AND the music is consistently brilliant, AND IT HAS CO-OP?????

This game's a diamond with a little bit of rough around it. Absolute blast of a game, highly recommend it.

There's a LOT of interesting stuff going on here, six hours in at time of writing and honestly? The customisation and playstyles on display are pretty varied and interesting to explore.

(Edit: The next paragraph may be irrelevant soon here. They've already released a couple minor patches that tweak some of the earlier game. I haven't gone back to double check what the new difficulty curve looks like, but, they seem to be doing their best to help polish this up!)

The difficulty curve, though, feels... rough. I enjoy the challenge, don't get me wrong, and it's pretty easily worked around by using the Breeze rune to turn the game ez-mode, but I feel like it could use a bit of TLC. Enemies that are tricky to play around are introduced a little too quickly, I think, sometimes even two tricky enemies being introduced in the same level.

But even with that, I love, love, love what's on display here, and I look forward to sinking a LOT of time into this.

It's frankly unreasonable how good this game is. Do you like high-speed platforming? Even just a little bit? Then buy this game. Lake Feperd has nearly perfected the genre.

You know when people say something is a diamond in the rough? There has perhaps never been another game that exemplifies that phrase as much as this game does.

First off, I have to be upfront. This game is not going to blow your mind with its graphics, its music, or its sound design. It's passable and not ugly, but it's no Hollow Knight, or Dead Cells, in that department. The game is buggy. Things sometimes act strangely or not at all. It's not balanced, either. But then, when you have over 700 different creatures, and there's one guy working on the game, what can you expect there? It is, by all counts, rough around the edges.

And yet, what it lacks in polish, it more than makes up for in charm and raw gameplay. It scratches so many different itches at once, itches that many games focused on storyline or balance would leave in the dust. It's like a collectathon, a deck builder, an incremental, and a turn based RPG rolled into one.

It has so many little pockets of absolute genius in it. It's a game that is simultaneously exceedingly complex, and blissfully casual. It's a game that has me excited for every little new thing I discover. Every new spell, every new monster, every new feature, I'm excited to figure out what it is, I'm excited at the prospect of this new thing to play with and fit into the already overflowing toybox. It drip-feeds a steady stream of new stuff at just the perfect rate, with just the perfect amount of challenge, the perfect amount of punishment, the perfect amount of RNG...

It's an amazing creation, a revolutionary example of RPG design, and I recommend it to anyone and everyone.

This is one of those underlooked gems I often see from very talented indie devs.

Imagine Binding of Isaac mixed with TouHou. If that sounds even the least bit fun to you, you will have a ball with this game.

This game is easily shaping up to be a masterpiece of an RPG. While lacking in the story department, and not the most polished gem on the market, it more than makes up for it in its unique gameplay experience. It feels like a cross between Pokemon, Disgaea, and Dragon Warrior Monsters, with a hint of TCG-esque strategy thrown in.

With infinite levels, over 500 monsters each with their own traits, thousands of collectibles, and an absolutely stunning amount of depth, this game will give you plenty to do and plenty to learn.

For me, it hits all the right spots. Depth without convolution. Grind without monotony. Almost 50 hours in, and - while it's not adrenaline-pumping action - I'm certainly not bored, and I never once find myself asking, where to from here? Punishment for death is low, encouragement to experiment and build multiple parties is high, and the pace of the game is very nice and steady, with discoveries and content fed at a pace that does not overwhelm, but still holds interest.

Plus, the dev gives small updates damned near daily. Dude's a machine. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

I have been looking for a game even relatively like Carbon for ages. I'm not sure how I missed this, but I love it. And I want more. I want so much more.

Just... God, it's good. It's that perfect line between being arcade-styled racing, but not being so over-the-top arcadey that it forsakes all physics. Driving may not be realistic - as in, your tires have such insane grip that you won't spin out and crash after ripping on the handbrake for a turn - but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥'s fun.

On top of that, the customization. Good LORD! The customization! Just... I can't describe how well it's done. Controls in the customization menu are a wee bit wonky, but, managable. Other than that, though, just, holy crap. At least half my game time is spent editing visuals, upgrading and tweaking cars, and I love it. Every second of it. Of course, there's also the option to not customize your car if that ain't your thing, but for those of you who love vinyls and paint jobs and all that jazz? You. Will. Be. Pleased.

It's fast, it's satisfying, it's got a feeling of personalization, it's almost everything I've wanted in a racing game.

Almost.

Where it lacks is two things. And both of them are the placement of difficulty.

Once a mission is done, you get a hefty chunk of change. Do it again? 10% of that change, at most. This is severely depressing if you manage to lose a car to the police by bad luck. Car gets impounded with less than $3000 or so in the bank? Kiss it goodbye. Customizations and all. This means that you'll likely be grinding a lot if you get unlucky and lose your favorite car at a horrble moment, or if you want to get all the cars. (Well... You can use cheat codes, but, nyeh.)

And, then there's the missions themselves. The only times I've lost is to cars that are a tier above mine - and those times were all just barely losses - or when I made, like, 5-10 mistakes in a race. I've made it a personal challenge to not use speedbreaker - which is basically bullet time for better turning - and it's still easy. Every race is more a time trial than a race, really, that's how far ahead of the pack I normally am. But ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥'s a fun time trial, and it's only marginally less satisfying to play because of it.

Final verdict? Unless you're a diehard racing simulator type person, buy this. Buy it now. And then wonder why the hell there aren't more games like it.

Next to the Gemcraft series, this is the best tower defence I've played in a while. And, next to Kingdom Hearts, it's the best RPG I've played in a while. It's original in its design and concept, this cross of a more niche genre with a very large one, whilest still being familiar enough in its portrayal to be easily understood.

To put it more bluntly, the only thing that's new and original about this game is the cross between tower defence and RPG, and ONLY tower defence and RPG. It doesn't throw in unseen mechanics, or third person action gameplay, or any of that. It's just tower defence and RPG.

And it's wonderful because of it.

It's the first game I'll be 100% completing on Steam. I recommend this game wholeheartedly. It does a damned good job on just about all fronts.

For once, everything I saw in the trailer was exactly what was delivered. And I'm certainly pleased with my purchase.

I bought this game this evening, and completed it this evening.

This is ♥♥♥♥. Absolutely ♥♥♥♥. The story is horrendous with the attempt at humor gained only one laugh, and that was at the Banjo King. The gameplay is decent, and the graphics are obviously not all that great. I can't even. This is NOT worth $10. Maybe $2, if you're looking for a really quick game, but not $10. The ♥♥♥♥ were they thinking with that price?
