Ahh the classics, this is the First Assassin's creed game in the franchise.

Setting itself in a realistic and historical context during the times of Deus Vult, while subtly hinting on something deeper. You are some random dude who's ancestors were Assassins during the crusades. But after using some magical tech, you're able to relive the past lives of running around and killing influential people (that includes people in odd outfits).

This first entry is very arcade-like and unforgettable, in comparison to the other games in the series. You repeatedly get set off to kill people for an old man and get info so you know where and how to do so. Then assassinate the target and repeat. Its a very simple concept, which isn't a bad thing when you consider it to be first game in the series.

The combat and movement shows as well. You're able to jump around rooftops and fall into hay bales. Though since it is a first, a lot of moves later games do automatically aren't here, so prepare for slow climbing and falling. Combat, meanwhile, can be a challenge. If you don't know what you're doing, then enemies will take a while to kill. They always defend against your attacks, so beware and plan accordingly.

Collectables on the other hand are the worse here, don't even bother looking for them without a guide. Flags and raging Templars don't have a marker to indicate where they are. Not even in what region they are in or a sound to notify them being nearby. Its all just guess work on large maps. It makes sense why the later games scraped that idea entirely. (But thats just me. xd)

All and all, this game is a bit rough for newcomers. So its best to use it as a stepping stone if you buy it with the rest of the Desmond series. If you'll only buying just the one, then I suggest a different and much newcomer friendly game would do just fine. And if you're just stumbling upon this and wondering if you should buy it, then its definitely worth assassinating.
