I have been watching and enjoying Spelunky for years on Twitch, and most recently Spelunky 2, but I hadn't given it a try myself because I typically hate playing games where you die over and over again. However, I decided to give it a try the other day anyway, and I actually found it to be really satisfying. There's something special and magical about the Spelunky series that makes it a treat to play every time—the soundtrack and sound effects, the art style, the feel of the controls, etc. Great job, dev team :)

This game has been a great, casual way to have fun with my friends over the years. I just wish that there were a plethora of more official levels!

Valve, you really knocked it out of the park with this one. I missed you <3

Similar to what others have said, I cannot recommend this game, which makes me sad to say. Doom 2016 did an excellent job at reviving the series, but I feel like they lost sight of what made it so enjoyable when they were making this sequel. The story and pacing doesn't feel right (and quite frankly doesn't make much sense), the gun-play isn't nearly as satisfying, needing to constantly use the chainsaw to get ammo feels counter-intuitive, the collectibles and secrets feel cheap, the graphics are objectively better but feel less natural and cartoon-ish, etc., etc.... I gave it about two hours of a chance, but I just can't get into it. Ultimately, it feels like too much of a different game :/

I can understand why some people might not like this game (because of the grinding and isolation), but somehow I've really taken a liking to it. I really enjoy the aesthetic and all of the updates that have been coming recently. Sometimes it's nice to come home and just explore the universe at my own pace after a long day at work. If I'm feeling like the grind is too much, then I just use a save game editor to shave off some time from resource harvesting.
