Some of the best writing you'll ever see in a game. It's insane that this is the dev's first title

This is a VN that revels in being pretentious, but it simply does not have the required quality of writing or research to back that up.

I could not get into the first Octopath game on Switch and on first glance this looks to be just an iterative sequel.

However the small improvements made to every single area of the game add up to a far superior experience overall, and makes this one of the best RPGs Square has ever made.

The original game was completely unique, made excellent use of the DS and had an incredible soundtrack that was very 2000s. Given all that, it's astonishing how good a sequel this is, it doesn't feel like there's been more than a decade between the games at all.

Two-handedly justifies VR.

It's a fantastic PC port, and the addition of a turbo mode makes the gameplay much better than it was on Vita, but the strength of the Trails games is their world-building and characters, and Cold Steel 2 struggles with both.

It's packed full of content, but what really impressed me about this game is how assured and confident the writing is. An excellent buy if you want a good story.
