I'm not particularly good at the game (I'm a 2-3 star) but I find it quite enjoyable and would have recommended before the 1896 update, In fact I'd still recommend it if you don't find issue with anything I have issue with here as the gameplay is still fantastic.

I would recommend that you look at gameplay videos before purchasing, As you should do anyways, In my case the new UI is absolutely enough to get me to even put up the effort of writing a review, And I will likely refrain from spending any further on blood bonds until the issues with the UI are resolved.

My main issue with the 1896 update, The new UI changes.
The new UI is awful, So much clutter compared to the previous UI, It reminds me of the UI of Modern warfare II (2022) with how it's reminiscent of Netflix, Hulu or other streaming services.

Apparently the new UI isn't even that good on console's either so I don't know why it was changed so drastically, Though I don't know how true this is as I don't play Hunt on console so take this with a grain of salt.
As for the argument of players getting used to it, Sure. I've gotten somewhat used to it, It's still cluttered and annoying to use but I can navigate it for the most part now, It's still an unneeded change to something that worked fine before, Seems pointless to change it in my personal opinion.

When I launched the game for the first time since the 1896 update released it was on the Battle Pass screen instead of the Home screen is really strange but not much of an issue compared to the previously mentions UI, And is more of a nitpick.

The removal of the electric lamp sucks because it was a fun little tool, And it got removed from one of my loadouts, A sad thing but not really an issue considering how little use it likely got.

The addition of bullet drop is alright, I have no super strong opinion on it as I've not run into many issues with it.

The new map is beautiful and really fun, I do think it favors longer range weapons in most areas but I happen to enjoy those weapons so I don't mind.

The new boss Hellborn is pretty cool though fire damage makes me weep, Pretty fun when you're prepared...

I wrote this originally immediately after seeing the new UI, I played a few matches and my opinion remains mostly the same but I'm more likely to recommend it, Still leaving the review at negative though until the UI gets better.

Take everything I say here with a grain of salt of course, I'm just some dumb person on the internet.
Reviews are useful but also look at some gameplay videos and decide for yourself if you want to play Hunt: Showdown.

Apologies if these seem like ramblings, I don't review things often and I'm still a bit annoyed by the new UI.

Fantastic game
I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ love the visual direction of the game, Paired with the great gameplay I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys stealth games (You can play non stealth but I'm a sucker for being sneaky so I can't comment on the loud gameplay)
