I cannot find anything negative to say about this game. It's relaxing, engaging, beautiful and simple.

Early Access Review
I backed the Beta on Kickstarter and have been playing since it was made available to me. This game is simultaneously true to the Doom/90s sci-fi hell aesthetic and holds on its own amazingly. The polish and consistency of this game is great and it's been getting gradually harder as they add more stuff, but has never felt either unfair or boring. Like chess with shotguns indeed, but also auto rifles, fireballs, demons, and space stations.

As a roguelike, it checks all the boxes (unless you're being super pure about ASCII graphics, in which case there is be an option for you (or there will be soon down the line). There is also an easy mode for you to learn the game, but even that will challenge you as you're learning the game.

The devs are super great people, shoutout to the fun-loving and communicative Epyon and Chaosforge team. I know there's lots of content planned and I can't wait to play it.

Edit: forgot to mention, the engine is custom and is very smooth and slick and cool.

I've played a ♥♥♥♥ ton of the first Risk of Rain, and despite its shortcomings it's one of my favorite games ever.

Risk of Rain 2 is better.

I've beaten it 4 times. I can't say how many more times I will be running through this game. It's incredible.

Early Access Review
I have about 40 hours in the pre-Steam copy, and have been watching Cogmind's development over the past year give or take a few months. I'm here now to tell you why Cogmind is worth every penny of yours and more.

1) Replayability and tactics. You'll never stop learning new things about this game. Every detail feels tangible and can be leveraged to your advantage. Maps and areas and items are amazingly well generated (maps are procedurally generated each playthough obviously).

2) Developer involvement. The one-man team behind Grid Sage Games, Kyzrati, is an amazingly friendly and engaged developer. On every roguelike chat forum he is always willing to share tips, update the playerbase on new development directions, and even compete with the top players. He maintains a policy of open development, with a great blog over on his website. Cogmind is his work of love and he's already put in over 8,000 hours of work into making this game the best it can be, with even more planned.

3) Polish. You won't find a roguelike with this good of an interface or fluidity of play. As I mentioned earlier, everything feels connected, everything believable. I love it. Don't let the Early Access label turn you away, this is more complete than most games that get pushed out into the mainstream these days.

4) Lore and worldbuilding. For the sake of spoilers, I'm just going to leave it at: play this game, if only for the story. You won't regret it. (This is also to hide the fact that 40+ hours in I barely have scratched the surface of the worldbuilding going on here.)

Have fun blowing OTHER robots up :)

I think it's about time I give this game a review.

Short version: like hard games? Buy this game! NOW! IT'S WAY MORE THAN WORTH IT!

Slightly less short version: TowerClimb is an amazing game drawing inspiration from Spelunky, but flipped upside down. Just like Spelunky, the various zones are super different and creative, and each new zone takes some clever thinking, maneuvering, and of course, learning. Though the controls may seem janky at first, with a bit of practice (seriously like only at 5 hours in) they feel more intuitive than Spelunky. Also, the pixel art is beautiful and the soundtrack is incredible.

Chapter 2 is devious... wish me luck! :)

It's 600 BC. I, playing as Germany, have encoutered France and Poland (my "friends"). Little do they know what is in store for them.

It's the 1700's. Allied with Russia (my "friend"), who has adopted Communist ideologies, we invade France and Poland.

But wait! I backstab Russia and ally myself with France after long negotiation and loss of pretty much all of my strategic and luxury resouces, and I only lose 2 musketmen.

Later, I am happily nuking the heck out my "friends" and razing those pesky city-states to the ground with my giant death robots.

10/10 would change the course of history again.
Best. Game. Ever.
Buy. Now.
Awesome.

P.S. Get the expansions they are actually worth it. If you can, get the full edition on sale for $12.50, and say bye to your civilization, and hello to a new one.

See what I did there? XD

Awesome roguelike RPG! Infinite replay value, compare to RotMG, but better, and also multiplayer. Trippy graphics and lots of fun!

This game is easily worth any amount of money. It is the best dungeon crawling RPG ever. The lighting, fighting, and challenge makes it a pleasure to play. If you are looking for a great RPG, look no further as I can never recommend it enough. I hope I can convince someone to buy it.
