Oh yeah, this game is awful. Bad physics, asset flip, no optimization, no polish, nothing.

But for those who have a morbid curiosity for this sort of thing like I do, you will find things you love about this game.

Don't play it if you want to play good games
Play it if you want to break a game for 15 minutes of chuckles

When I first got into Persona way back when and learned of this game's existence I was curious, but ultimately could never play it. It was a huge bummer, and I'd try to remoind people of its existence every now and again in hopes something would come of it. On this site, I even made a list of Persona 3 Lost Media on Backloggd for this game and its mobile/web breteren. Soon after this list G-MODE actually announced they were finally bringing this game back I was ecstatic. Even if it's Japanese only, I can use that for practice. It also gives me an excuse to come back when the fan translation comes out. Now, a few months later, and I got it.

Even though the version of this game on phones is technically still lost, we still have this game in its full capacity and at most the only difference seems to be how audio is rendered and some minor model quirks. I'd also recommend some sort of CRT-esque filter as the graphics feel intended for that, but it's still a very retro feel all on its own. This is the game I wished for, the game I played, and the game that, after all these years! My thoughts maaay be influenced by how long it took to get to this, but damn it it's finally here!

Yeah it's pretty good. Obviously the story is set up in a way so that no one asks "Well why didn't she bring any of this up in P3?" which is unfortunate but it's still pretty solid in that regard as some things she picks up still carry over. It once again asks what the value of life is and what it means to be human, but in its own way distinct from P3's. The game is surprisingly story heavy for a mobile game, but the story is good so I simply can't complain.

The gameplay is fairly simple, and fairly easy which is understandable given it was designed to be played on an old cell phone. You've got a jump, double jump, and three weapon types for you to use to your liking. You also have Aigis' Persona, Palladion, who will mostly be used for her attack but you can unlock other utilities as well. You can get into a bit of a groove here, which is helped by the good music this game has, even caught me jamming out once or twice. It also knows how to utilize silence when appropriate, which is something to give it props for. There are also a few boss fights in here to mix things up and while again still simple, are still very nice. I do wish that the weapons weren't all the same element (only type of blocking in the game blocks all weapons and requires the Persona attack) but I still understand keeping it simple for phones. Some may criticize the FPS being low but the action is never too demanding and it manages it all well. Honestly, the game is just some good fun and an HD remake of it would be pretty cool too.

This is one small step for Lost Media and one giant step for Persona 3. Having this game back is huge, and hopefully the other mobile games will follow suit as this era or Persona 3 (and Persona history) gets to be rediscovered and further explored. This is just the First Mission, and there is more to recover, but I still love this game on its own merits as well!

Nominated for the Steam Game of the Year Awards but there should be a category for "Providing a great service to games preservation" or something like that because this would sweep it!

if you want the blandest 3D platformer of the year, this is exactly what you wanted. No fun platforming options, bland ass combat, collectables for the sake of collectables, awful voice acting...just avoid.

What if Trial and Error gameplay and overreliance on RNG got married?
This would be their child.

huge wasted potential. Its artwork and designs and the game's general aesthetic is really cool...but it ends there. Instead of an essay I'll list bullet points.

-The story's a joke, nothing in it matters, nothing is really fleshed out or even concluded.
-Shout outs to the sidekick who's just a nuisance the whole time
-Little enemy variety
-They all shoot projectiles which means spam dodge or get hit, also get while comboing other enemies from far away
-the in-game graphics are ugly unfinished models
-the animations are absolutely clunky and don't interact with their environments or even themselves properly at all, clipping is everywhere
-the framerate is absolutely abysmal and kills the experience. What is even dropping it this much? The environments and characters aren't demanding at all...

The fact that this could have been amazing really hurts it. This really felt like it was gonna be good, but I can't recommend it at all.

Please give this game an update to at least fix the framerate issues...

I got to the casino and the struggle for 300 coins alone was enough to drop the game. Call me bad but that's what happened. If there's a way to easily get 300 I'll try it again for the boxing but even then that's not the greatest. The overworld brings it all down and the boxing lacks Punch-Out's charm and especially audio telegraphs, fighters could stand out from the background (and Pato) more...it has potential but it ain't there.

Difficulty is all over the place (the third world is laughably easy while 4-1 likes to throw lots of traps at you that you could only know of through trial and error) and is generally "eh"
