Changing to a thumbs up because fair is fair and it really is a fun enjoyable time. There is no big announcement here on steam yet, that Sony has withdrawn their demands, I am also still annoyed the Dev team didn't make it clear during initial install that account linking skipping was only temporary (I would have refunded the game the day I bought if I knew it was required later). But it seems we voted with our reviews and we were heard. Sony's plan to plus up their PSN user count with a Steam draft was rolled back and I can go back to squishing some bugs and fighting terminator bots once or twice a week with a smile on my face. I will say my trust is shaky at the moment and you might wait for the dust to settle before purchasing.

It's a good game! and the live service monetization is implemented in a good way which is so refreshing.

OLD:
Hero of fun indie freedom to zero with the requirements. Refund requested wont play again until the PSN plot is dropped or made optional.

For those who claim its a free account and takes 2 minutes and you never have to think of it again, what if a game you bought on PlayStation or Xbox suddenly started demanding you also make a steam account just to play it after you bought it and after it was an optional thing for 3 months. It works fine without PSN "intergration" (cough data harvesting). You will have to think of it again when you get that letter from sony saying "You're account information could have been compromised sign up for identity theft protection"

Bait and switch on account stuff. I don't like being forced to link accounts even if they are "free" (as we all know nothing is free), This is BS and I would refund over this if I wasn't past steams 2 hour play deal. The minute they try and force me to link accounts I will be uninstalling. When will devs and publishers understand we don't want to use steam to access your stupid launcher or your stupid other 3rd party sign in so you can sell our info or add it to your analytics or see your ads. We bought your game, we bought your extra battle pass or whatever, leave us alone. I wont recommend games with this practice even if i otherwise like the game, there are tons of other fun games to play. Also I would have refunded right away if I had a requirement of linking accounts from the first day I played.
Vote with your wallet and time folks if you disagree with these forced account linking and BS launchers and BS publishing practices just go play something else or buy something else and avoid preorders otherwise these things will continue.

EDIT: 8/15/2025: Can I get a double not recommend button WTF a plushie for a awesome IP that the creators became sell outs and the company the sold out to bait and switched all those people who preordered or bought early access all scum the whole lot of them greed ruins so many good things.

OLDER:
Id like to give an up vote, with over 800 hours on steam and over 1000 hours off steam, but:
No body, I mean no body wants your stupid "yet another launcher". What a worthless addition to an other wise great game. Seriously people why are you and every other company insistent on adding their own launcher? mining our data? tracking the number of players? why? Steam does it for you, plus you're now are also using Unity Analytics, how much information do you people need to harvest, we players don't want it, we paid for the game leave us and our data alone. (It is one of the reasons I will not be in a hurry to purchase KSP2, that and the crazy EULA that has mentions of things like micro transactions), you can count me out, as I hope many other people will ignore the hype and vote with their wallet,

This was something made with care and love, for fun and learning, until it got sold off, "For the greater good" (and KSP2 seems like it is just a twisted corporate perversion, shame on certain you tubers for shilling and not pointing that out) it makes me sad.

If you just have to play this specific game then I would say go with this one rather than the 2nd but, I just can't endorse adding a launcher and unity analytics into a game that was just fine without, and I really can't bring myself to early access KSP2 until I am sure there is no transactions, modding is enabled (and not screwed up), and I'd really like them to ditch the launcher there too.

Early Access Review
Refund requested: Seems like it wants to be Tarkov, Gave it a try as I wanted a tarkovish feel, but its just boring. It lacks a lot of content and I don't know if its planned would be a lot better with a skill system, better looting system, and smarter AI. I liked the mission zone and drops and the map is cool (i mean the map interface i didnt explore much of the world). I cant recommend this.

So now the game is full release and its still a great value even at non sale price in my opinion, a work of love and care for the project rather than a money grab like so many other games (especially sequels) .

If you liked any of the first ones this one has the name ultimate for a reason.
Casual feel monster taming and training game with a story, lore, and more unique to it.
Deeper strategy than is apparent and super awesome rare things to grind for.

EDIT: Updating to show how many hours I've logged, Now that I'm past the story I'd like to counter some negative points I've seen in other reviews

1.) Limit to fusing: Fusing only once makes you think about your fuses to select good synergy in traits, and causing the player to use strategy adding stacking fuses would just make for super OP creatures. If you aren't happy with a fuse its pretty easy to summon a different creature or two and fuse up something else.

2.) Difficulty in bosses: Each boss is pretty different leading to a need to adapt your strategy and builds, or level up to a point it doesn't matter. I don't think any were unbalanced.

3.) Forcing players to a single build: This one doesn't seem to be a thing especially post story where you get the chalice that encourages trying different classes, Right now I am a paladin and I focus on provoking. Each class I've played I adjusted my team and play style and I enjoy it as well as how different many of the classes are so far. (Think I've done 5)

4.) Looks like a RPG maker game: What's the problem with that, its just pixel art, and its great quality art in my opinion. The engine is actually the Game Maker Engine and its a one person code job. Well worth $20 if your going to play through the story without hitting the tons of hours of end game stuff there is to do and not to mention there is more to come. Few bugs here and there one or two can be almost game breaking but I am sure they will be addressed, just remember this is early access still.

Only buy if you dont mind a dev team that doesn't seem to care, Should be early acessess (1/4 done as in description means not done enough to call gold) , worked first time I played it. loaded my save the next day and all foreground graphics were gone (only black shadows where things are), no fix after several patch GFX drivers up to date, dev team did not respond or acknowledge, new game does not fix this.

Game is buggy as hell. SHOULD BE CALLED EARLY ACCESS (I Wouldnt be as harsh if it was)
If you remember Sword of the Stars II release, youll know how this game is and still going, those of you who dont Sword of the Stars II was supposed to be an awesom sequel, too bad after over a year of patchs it is still buggy, slow, and barely playable, let alone still not finished.

Point blank: I want to like this game it seems cool, but it SUCKS, save your money, buy Terreria, buy starbound, by a hammer and hit yourself in the head.

Early Access Review
An excellent crafting, building, strategy, game with defence and tech tree elements, It looks great, sounds great, and has very few bugs for early access, I would recomend it if you like not overly complicated games that allow you freedom, randomness, and the joy of building things from the ground up.

Much better stealth system, so far great sotry, if you liked 2033, last light is awesome, Much more beautiful game and the weapon system is far better, even the ammo system is tweaked better, good job for taking all the flaws of the last game fixing them and giving a new story.
