My boy is back! Haven't touched the BR mode yet, but already happy with Splitgate.

No matter how you might feel about yourself, no matter how bad your situation is, you still value yourself higher than this company does. Quality of Life improvements are exceptionally rare, and the QOL getting straight up worse is actually more common. My hours in this game are more stockholm syndrome than enjoyment, I think.
To summarise the quality of the game code: the cash shop, where you spend your actual money, is commonly referred to as crash shop because odds are you will crash to desktop trying to enter it. You are likely to crash out of the game while trying to spend money on it. Let that sink in as a baseline, and now consider how the rest of the game is going to be if not even giving the company your money goes well.

Multiplayer is definitely not the disappointing product anymore that it was at launch, it is actually worth your time now and I recommend giving it a try! The multiplayer is free to play, anyway, so not like you can lose anything by trying it.

I don't know how 3 hours suddenly passed, but they did. Free game, 0 microtransactions, little reason not to try it.

Death is fun, I can recommend death. Death with a 10/10 soundtrack and art direction too.

Early Access Review
You automate five things, feel good about that result, and then move on to the next thing that needs to be either automated or improved so you can do the next things you want to do either more easily or more efficiently. Rinse and repeat, and suddenly it's 4 AM and you meant to go to be asleep at 11 PM.

Not shown: two more playthroughs on a DRM-free downloaded version from Humble Bundle.

Great little game with a really good soundtrack, absolutely worth playing if you have any interest in puzzle elements in games and like creativity being rewarded.

TL;DR: the expansions, especially Forsaken, are worth the money in my opinion. The current season/battle pass model on the other hand, not worth it. Also the new player experience is a disaster. When you first get to The Tower, find Amanda Holliday and pick up the Red War questline to get an actual story and proper tutorials.

===

I was excited when Bungie announced it was separating from Activision/Blizzard and moving to Steam. The new expansion was looking interesting, gunplay in the base game I got for free was very solid, everything shaping up to become a great addition to Steam.

Turns out it wasn't Activision/Blizzard who were the "big bad company" that was keeping Bungie from reaching their full potential. The base game went free to play since the Steam release, with a move to a season pass kind of model instead of more frequent but larger content drops. Now we have seasons of a couple months each, with their own activity that is no longer in the game after that season ends.

The quality of these content droplets (because they certainly aren't drops of any real size) has also been on a downward trend. The Eververse however, with its focus on cosmetics, is microtransaction heaven for Bungie. Current state of the game is not what I'd call great, and if I were to consider buying it now based on the most recent content it's a hard pass from me.

But the old content is actually good. Gunplay is good. Shooting things feels satisfying. Using abilities makes you feel powerful. Quests for unique weapons ("Exotic" weapons) are interesting and the guns actually have their own special feel and effects.

It is that old content that makes the game as a whole worth recommending to me. There is more than enough to do, and I have absolutely got my money's worth out of the €80 I've spent on the expansions. But the season pass model is a hard pass from me. Almost 300 hours played on review time, and I skipped on the most recent season.

Also, the new player experience is a disaster. When you first get to The Tower, find Amanda Holliday and pick up the Red War questline to get an actual story and proper tutorials. To this day I have no idea why they decided to make a new and worse introduction to the game when it went free to play. This New Light questline they added actively pushes new players away when they have no guidance and end up in the main city area after the tutorial and don't have the slightest idea what to do or where to go for anything.

I tried to play this game with friends. Joining them needs to go through the Steam friends list, which only showed one of the three (who were in the same lobby) as even possible to join. Then when I tried to join them, the game said there was no space for me to join... Despite there being four bots in their game. Right.

This may look good, but if you're really looking for a free arena shooter I'm gonna go ahead and recommend Unreal Tournament 4 instead.
