Great story, great gameplay, the hype is warranted.

I really want to recommend this game, but just can't. That said, I'll probably try citizen sleeper 2 out and see if it addresses some issues.

All for the sci-fi theme and has a great start, good world building and enjoy the dialogue with nice music that fits the mood, but after about 2 hours in you'll probably stop enjoying the game in the same way. It's missing that true 'decisions you make have consequences later' factor, and the gameplay gets stale. At first I was excited choosing a class to begin and leaned into having a specialty, but then you realize there is no real benefit exclusive to how you spend your upgrade points. More or less by the mid game as well, the action dice you roll all have at least a +1 to baseline, and the risks/difficulty significantly drops off. You go through a routine of just spending dice to talk to somebody (with little to no dynamic storytelling) just to go on another side-quest to talk to the same person later, rinse and repeat. Apart from the world building itself, it's lacking that sweet payoff of some kind.

I'd say if it's on sale for 80% off and you're the type of person that likes games with dice mechanics, knowing you're probably going to be doing a lot of reading, jump into it.

One of the very few games I feel obligated to post a review, it's a must-play. Easily worth full price.

Upon entering a room: "Good god how do you do this!? There's no way."

Half an hour later: "Glad to finally be done with that room, I'm a genius! Next room..."

Rinse and repeat.
