Early Access Review
i cannot for the life of me reccomend this game, sadly. I do not think you should buy this game or support the developers in ANY WAY WHATSOEVER. For why i believe so, please read the full review.

To preface, I'm someone who grew up on Roblox since mid-2017, who has become completely disillusioned with Roblox's current state. I knew about Blockland (this game's original version) since around somewhere in 2019 through youtube videos as "a funny little roblox clone!". I also remember hearing something vague about one of the developers being off, but I kind of just pushed everything related to it to the back of my head.

My main praise is with the art direction. I love this game's artstyle! It feels like a mix of roblox, action figures and lego figures, with pretty cool and crazy customization options, all free of charge. Literally spent the first 30 minutes of me playing this game cosplaying as the source missing texture lmao.

I first played this game with friends during next fest and found the prospect and artstyle of this game really cool! "the simple building mechanics of Roblox combined with the sandbox mechanics of Gmod? it's a little clunky, but sign me up!" I eagerly kept my eyes on the game, playing the hell out of the next fest demo, and being like "this game is great, I cannot wait to buy this game for 10-20 euro!"

Thirty godamn euro. That's ridiculous, especially for an unfinished game in early access. The game is incomplete, full of bugs and you're telling me the final price is gonna be more than that? What the hell? Gmod is 10 dollars and roblox is free (heavy quotations). While I understand games becoming more expensive, after all developers need to eat (trust me, as someone who is actively studying game design, i REALLY get this), but a base cost of 30 euro is downright stupid.

The game is also just dead. Barely anyone plays it, and honestly I wonder why (maybe don't make the ticket to entry 30 dollars). The game runs awfully on my new-ish gaming laptop, servers are horrifically laggy and right now the game worlds just feel empty, which the opposite of what you want in a sandbox-social game.

Oh yeah, there's also the AI generated code, which the developers claim is just for the repetitive tasks, where if true, is a very tame use of AI in the art of making games in the grand scheme of things, but if you are wholely against the use of AI in game creation that is a strong dealbreaker, especially if you are a strong believer in the AI slippery slope argument.

All the previous issues are negliable to what i'm about to say. I would happily have bitten the silver bullet and called the game a 6 or 7/10, fun to play with friends, less so with randoms if what I'm about to say wasn't a problem (i swear this isn't a 67 joke this is actually what i think about the game 😭)

What made me refund the game was the fact that the developers actively support pedophiles. not in like "oh one guy made an offcolor joke in a chatroom once 12 years ago kinda thing", like the GODAMN FORMER LEAD CODER LIKED KIDS, CALLS THEMSELVES A SHOTACON, HAS MADE WEIRD COMMENTS TO KIDS SINCE 2012 AND CONTINUES TO ACT THIS WAY TO THIS DAY. While they should have instantly fired this guy, removed as much of their influence as possible and soldiered on, they continued to keep people like this around, even welcoming them back in the community after being disgraced. Other developers showcase odd behaviours such as reposting furry porn on their work account right next to Brickadia concept art, which is extremely odd considering Brickadia is a game intended for all ages with a toylike artstyle.

Special thanks for Phobos and their amazing steam review for actually making me aware of this, you can read it here for the full details:

Please refund the game if you can and cease support of the developers, since this is a recurring pattern and I do not believe this game or the developers will change anytime soon, they have been engaging in this since 2012.

All i'm gonna say is, to the devs of brickadia, what a letdown. I expected better and honestly I shouldn't be surprised by stuff like this anymore. How hard is it to not hire and keep around people who are literal pedophiles. I would say do better, but my expectations are currently lower than the Mariana Trench.

hype moments and aura the game

this game feels like they took fallout new vegas, made the gunplay 10% better then sandpapered away anything cool or interesting from FNV and replaced it with generic realistic graphics and corridor shooter elements because that was the trend at the time. and the writing, don't get ME STARTED on the writing

also ♥♥♥♥ bethesda, they killed over 10 years of mods for creation club content, because WOOO, more paid mods and more useless fixes!

please just play any fallout game that isnt 4 or 76 at this point

this dlc actively ruins the earlygame imho. when you start off the game, you intentionally start with nothing but a 9mm pistol and whatever junk you can find in the first 3-4 hours of the game and many early areas are built around that.

this dlc is just like "screw that, heres a grenade launcher, metal armor, upgraded 10mm pistol, shotgun and aid items right from the getgo, have fun!". while it sounds fun, it really screws with the game's progression and honestly without mods to place the items in random areas (like jsawyer mod), it feels gamebreaking.

if you are intent on installing mods to fix this, or want to get all the dlcs then i reccommend it, but for any regular player i would just give this dlc a miss or disable it unless you really hate the early game

a good game that is being and has already been actively milked to death.
the publisher have dried up all their goodwill by doing increasingly anti-consumer moves across all their games, but this recent change especially hits close to home.

the price for the infamous collection, a set of dlcs which are basically paid updates adds up to €122, offsale which is absolutely ludicrous for a game released in 2015.

the recent changes of a subscription service feel like nothing more than a bandaid fix attempting to fix their ♥♥♥♥♥♥ monetization and another attempt to milk their fans for money; instead of fixing glaring issues with payday 3, their newest entry full of issues which cannot be fixed due to meddling by higher-ups

if you buy this game and want to play the dlcs, buy it on sale for a buck and use a dlc unlocker, don't reward these practices

do better.

A horrible game for nobody to enjoy which i cannot reccommend enough. Only play this if you can stomach it, as the game covers all kinds of abuse humanity is capable of.

a game where the less you know about it, the better. A must-play for any horror game enthusiast, playable entirely in 2-2.5 hours.

As a game developer, I highly reccommend this game as a rapid prototyping tool for creature design. Spore's creature editor is concise enough where you can make really funky stuff given the chance, but it isn't overly complicated; you can whip up a simple creature design in less than 5 minutes and immediately get to testing it in terms of basic animation and locomotion.

The actual game is okay, it's a very brain turn off kind of game, but especially after the shutdown of the spore servers i view it as nostalgia doing much of the heavy lifting. While the gameplay is kinda eh, I cannot get over the charm this game oozes, with how charming creatures can act, along with what kinds of horrifying homonculi you can make and come across.

As a result I have to say if you are going to do anything related to creature design, this game is a must purchase when on sale (at €5)

An outstanding masterpiece which im upset got left behind between the successes of pony island and inscryption.

I would personally consider this game a must-play for anyone who really wants to get into the world of indie games and gamedev as a whole

As with all Daniel Mullins games, the Hex is one of those games where the less you know about it on your first playthrough, the better.

A title I can best describe as a slow burn. At the start, i didn't really enjoy this game, but the deeper i delved into the game the more i enjoyed it.

As with all daniel mullins games, this game is immensely fun to 100% and is hiding countless secrets which the game rewards you for finding with tickets and achievements

A must-play for people who love meta games
