Playtime is wrong due to alpha testing

I have been playing this game off and on for almost 4 years in alpha, and I can safely say that this is one of the better robot combat games I have played. A spiritual successor to Robot Arena 2 in many ways, it sets itself apart buy the sheer amount of customization you can have. Literally, the only limit is your imagination when it comes to building.

There is no shortage of parts or shapes (there is a literal limit, but there will be something that works for what you need), so the only thing is that the learning curve is more like a learning cliff, but once you get past that (there is an active community that is willing to help), there is a lot of fun to be had here.

TL:DR if you enjoyed robot wars/battlebots/robotica/robot arena 2, you will enjoy this game.

Its a spiritual successor to Left 4 Dead 2 in so many ways. The only real downside is the lack of solo progression. The devs have announced that they are going to work on this, but even without this it is a really good game. There is difficulty for everyone.

My only actual negative thought on this is builds which are designed around speedruns. They break levels, and, and for me and my group of friends, it kills the fun of the game, since it makes levels a little too easy.

Early Access Review

CUTENESS OVERLOAD!

Seriously though. I have to hand it to Dreagast for leading me towards this little gem, and while I dont have a whole lot of time in the game, I can say that it is an EXTREMELY well polished game for the stage it is in right now, and is well worth the price I payed for it, which at the time of this review, was $20. Minus a penny. Well worth it.

Early Access Review
I have put in over 20 hours into this game, and I feel that I know wnough to give this a proper review.

First things first. This is a VERY hard game. Do not expect to enter this game and breeze through.

Now on to actual gameplay.

Story

In terms of story, there really is not one. It is all up to your interpretation.

Gameplay

Nuclear throne is a top down bullethell shooter type game. Levels are all randomly generated, with randomly generated enemies, and randomly generated chests lying around that you can use to your advantage.

Difficulty

As I said before, this is a hard game. It is not always fair. However, that doesnt really detract from the enjoable nature of the game.

Updates

This game is currently in early access. That being said, it is updated frequently. One thing should be taken into consideration. Progress is usually erased each update. Fair warning before you get upset by it. Characters are easy to unlock again. One character you literally unlock by dying .

Overall opinion

With everything that I have seen of the game, I can see a lot of potential in this game, and it is easily one of the best early access games out there.

Completly biased Rating

I give this game a 9/10 The only reason that it isn't 10/10 is because some of the "safe spawns" get you killed instantly, especially with one of the characters. Melting has 2 hp. Most things do more than 2 damage.

So... I thought that gearbox was learning and was listening to its fans. I am a borderlands 2 fan with over 900 hours in the game, and am extremely dissapointed in gearbox, because I know that they can do better. Look at the ultimate vault hunter pack 2 for borderlands 2. While not perfect in any way and "forcing" people to farm legendary gear, it added more playtime, and I have put more hours than I care to admit in getting characters to op8. the point is that added replayability. I cant even comment about the quality of the DLC because... I AM ON A MAC. SERIOUSLY. Why are you giving me a dlc that I cant play as part of the season pass. The Pre-Sequel is a good game, and I will continue to play it, but get it together gearbox. My first negative review, and I was thinging it would be on a non-borderlands game. ...Sigh... Maybe it will get their attention.

This game is an interesting physics game where you need to swing a red... thing... into bars. You need to use momentum to make the thing go faster to reach higher areas. You can also customize the levels that you are playing in. Not so much as a level editer as a level modifier. I do recommend this game, because oit is a simple little time waster.

I will say this immediately. If you are not a patient person, or do not like dying, you probably will not want this game, because many of the levels are extremely challenging the firt time through. However, if you enjoy platformers, like a challenge, or are familliar with games like I wanna be the guy, you will probably enjoy this game. It has one major thing that hard platformers like this don't really have. Instant Respawns. Which means that tyou can have even less of a delay between your inevitable 30 deaths on certain stages. Unfortunately, once you play through the game once, it becomes MUCH easier, simpy because you know where everything is going to be. It is stil fun, but it loses the charm that makes Super Meat Boy, instead of a generic hard platformer. It also include other characters from other games which all control differently to Meat Boy.

I am giving this game a rating of 8/10 because while being a hard game to play throuhgh the first time, the challenge is not there much after the first time through.

Borderlands 2 is an amazing game for anyone that is looking for a good FPS. It has everything you can look for in a game. Good gameplay, funny dialogue, great voice acting, great characters, multiplayer compatibility, and it is a good challenge for those who want challenge in the games they play.

It may have taken a long time for this game to come out F2P, but I feel that the wait was well worth it. It combines the feel of a frantic 3rd person shooter with the graphics that I can only compare with the graphics from Team Fortress 2. I know that I might get hate, but I feel that this might be a little better that team fortress 2, purely because you can make weopon custumization. What other game can you have a grenade launcher that fires electricale flak grenades.
