This game is a different breed. For both the positives and negatives that brings with it, this game is truly a different breed.

I can easily say the best times I've had playing a video game have been in this game. Those times don't come easy though, and most videos don't do those times justice. Arma 3 is full of quailty people, but as it's seen significant growth, also growing amounts of trolls and not-so-friendly players. If you can find a group of players with a similar mindset and enough talent, you will have a fantastically unique time in this game.

Unlike most mainstream shooters, this game is almost entirely community based. Sure, Arma 3 itself is controlled and developed by Bohemia, but once you get in-game you are most likely playing a creation of another player. This completely opened ended sandbox of opportunities also has it's downsides though.

For one, performance isn't top notch. The game doesn't perform horribly in most cases, but a poorly scripted mission may lead to a drastic FPS decrease. Networked play will operate fine under vanilla or well-created missions on a beefy server, but adding in a lot of players and custom scripts will quickly lead to major, annoying dsync.

The creative freedom in this game also means that expecting to launch the game, join any open server, and bunker down for some fun isn't a realistic expectation. A vast majority of the servers are community operated, meaning there are some very good and very poor servers. Apart from the diversity in game modes (a positive element), many of the same game modes (or missions) are modified by their respective server owners. This could mean some extra goodies, or some unexpectedly low FPS.

For all the negatives this game has, the positive elements will easily and repeated lead me to highly recommend this game. Just know what you're signing up for before purchasing ;)
