You will arrive along the old road. It winds with a troubling, serpent-like suggestion through the corrupted countryside. Leading only, I fear, to ever more tenebrous places. There is a sickness in the ancient pitted cobbles of the old road and on its writhing path you will face viciousness, violence, and perhaps other damnably transcendent terrors. So steel yourself and remember: there can be no bravery without madness. The old road will take you to hell, but in that gaping abyss we will find our redemption.

In time, you will know the tragic extent of my failings...

KSP is a cute spacecraft building 'sim', featuring an alien solar system loosely based upon our own. The basic concepts of the game can be split into two main parts: designing (and building) spacecraft (and space planes) and then manually flying them to try and achieve your own space missions. Your first task will no doubt be to attempt to build and fly a rocket in order to get your Kerbals into orbit around their home planet of Kerbin.

In career mode KSP is a strategic game, featuring scientific research to unlock parts and (soon) budgets for vessels / missions. Alternatively, the game can also be played in sandbox mode, with all parts already unlocked and unlimited funds. I'd recommend starting out in career mode, since the unlocked inventory of parts can be a little bewildering to new players.

Either way this is not only a terrifically fun sim but it is also rather educational, since if you want to get anywhere you will need to learn about real-life space-science concepts. These include: basic orbital mechanics (orbital apsides, velocities, etc.) Newtonian physics, Tsiolkovsky's rocket equation, Hoffman transfer orbits, manual docking processes, etc. and so on.

The game is very mod-friendly, allowing all sorts of additional parts (flight computers, aerodynamic parts etc.) and missions (ex. resource gathering) to be added easily to either the career or sandbox modes, in order to expand the game.

The game is still unfinished (thanks Early Access!) but it is very playable. I've put in a lot of hours to it since you really do get out as much you put in. During this time, I've built and launched satellites, space stations, moon landers and interplanetary research vessels.

Highly recommended.

So I turned the tables last night, on a pair of would-be bandits who'd been stalking me through the zombie-infested ruins of a post-apocalyptic soviet town.

Not since the days of raiding in WoW have I got such an adrenaline rush from a multiplayer game!

The game is still in Early Access, so it's not yet feature-complete. It is however very playable already and even solo, the game has been pretty absorbing.

Looking forward to seeing where this one goes next.
