Early Access Review
Early/mid game is amazing. End game seems to just be the same thing over and over without any real struggle. My population stopped increasing, and nobody joined, no raiders, nothing. Just zombie waves here and there and making sure I have enough canned food.

I still recommend this game though because it's still very fun, very unique with the map aspect. Hoping to see some additional tech tree stuff, really hoping to see a lot more stuff tbh, but it's early access.

So to start, I have more hours on this game than steam shows. My SO uses my library so I use the actual client. I am still new to the game however, just much more than 7 hours new.

Eve Online has a very niche feel to it, in the sense this isn’t -wholly- a casual RPG game. If you have patience and a willingness to learn, it can go a very long way as the menus in the game for the first few hours can seem overwhelming, as well as the vast amounts of skills to learn, specializations, ships, maps and economy.

You’ll need to have patience. Lots of it. When you level up skills, you don’t simply purchase them, you have to wait a certain amount of time per level of skill. It jumps from minutes to days. Later on it can jump to months worth. It’s just how it goes.

I’ve noticed a lot of people getting salty over dying or getting ganked. First and foremost, the golden rule of eve is “do not fly what you cannot afford to lose”. Now to go deeper into this, I have died twice, and not by players. There are 4 “zones” as far as I’m aware.
High security: this covers a fair amount of the map in the game, while it’s extraordinarily rare to get attacked in high security, it is possible, but you kind of have to be seeked out and worth the kill, because the attacker can die just as quickly by Concord, the security that flies around.
Low security: this is a little bit more PvP oriented, a little bit. People are given the ability to pop your ship without much consequence. Concord won’t come to your immediate aid, but they will be marked to kill, and they can be attacked at jump gates.
Nullsec: absolutely zero security. Corporations and alliances will work together to make their own rules essentially. You will most likely get attacked right at the gate, chased, or rarely nothing at all. It’s basically the Wild West. But where the most danger resides, the greater the loot. But I’ll get into more of that later.
Wormhole space: if you aspire to explore, you will sometimes spot wormholes. These wormholes can take you anywhere in the game. From highsec, to nullsec, to spots not on the map. The loot is incredible, dangers can still lurk as you’re obviously not the only explorer, but in my experience, it’s far less likely. You just have to be ready to have your ship popped so don’t fly what you can’t afford to lose. This is truly the Wild West.

You might ask if the only way to progress in the game is delving into dangerous places. This isn’t entirely true. While you will get more isk (game currency) by going to more dangerous spots, it’s entirely possible to live and thrive within high security your entire time. You’ll just have to work a little longer to get the currency you’re looking for. You can also join corporations or alliances that can take you to more dangerous places if need be. But making your livelihood in highsec is still an option for those that don’t seek PvP.

There’s a notion that this game is pay to win. While you can buy PLEX (currency for real money) and sell it to get enormous ships or implants, there are active communities that enjoy specifically hunting these whales (this includes hunting them in highsec) Most of the time they will buy a ship and not know how to use it. And if your character dies, they also lose their implants. A lot of folks would consider this game to be more along the lines of “pay 2 lose” as you are usually targeted for flying a super fancy ship.

I highly recommend this game if you are looking for a new adventure, and a stable community. It truly is a lot of fun and a hell of an adrenaline rush when you’re out in wormhole space hacking data sites. I’m still learning so much about this game, and so many different methods on how to thrive.

Also, bonus, the game is beautiful.

I got the season pass when I also Preordered. This isn't really worth the money. The cave is huge, but the passages in the cave hardly fit the hallways you're given. The quest is super short and can be done in about 5 minutes. You get pretty shiny hallways and rooms, but things that actually matter, like additional experiments or equipment for your settlers to use is slim to none. I was honestly very excited about this but it's a major disappointment. Your vault wont be flush and perfectly built, there's a ton of room around but the unscrappable debris makes it almost impossible to make a square room unless you build in the very middle.

Essentially it's just an additional-- very very large, cavernous settlement. I'm a builder, and knew this DLC would be just for that, but what you're given is just plain sad. If you have the season pass, grats, but a meal at taco bell would be more worth the price.

I was building walls just a few minutes ago, and the game crashed and I'm not even remotely upset. I almost feel like the computer has graced me with its mercy. It's not good.
