Hey Guys!

We (Dokai) have been using Houdini Indie for quite some time. This software is amazing to create procedural content for any (part) of your workflow and/or pipeline, and allows you to do pretty much anything you can dream off, in CG, of course!

It's a bit hard to get into at first, because of the node-based workflow combined with code (Python, VEX), but once you wrap your head around it, the possibilities are close to infinite. You can decide on any direction with Houdini as your software, whether it's doing some concepting and hard-surface modeling, as well as diving into FX with any of the simulation tools to make cool explosions, water or fire effects and anything really.

The SideFX staff is super helpful and provides great learning contents on their website. But that's not all. If you have any problem you're running into, if you notice the software could improve or benefit from your feedback and if you have ideas about what would be cool to do with Houdini, they are more than welcome to connect.

Houdini isn't yet implemented for real-time in the gaming industry, but works very fast with the free Houdini Indie Engine plugin that comes along with Houdini Indie. This allows any designer or artist to quickly iterate in software like Maya and Max, but is also very compatible with UnrealEngine and Unity. Think of creating procedural assets and then using those in your engine editor. Very cool!

For us, there is no going back to destructive workflows. The combination of the great staff at SideFX, the fast updates, the infinite possibilities and the amazing community makes this pretty much the only software we use!
