Do you think of yourself as a person who knows a cool post-apoc?

Wrong, it was Chris Hunt, the creator of Kenshi.

This game is top-in-class indie, with some of the coolest visuals, game mechanics, gameplay programming you can get.

Buy Kenshi to support Kenshi 2, then play 400 hours of Kenshi and see through what horrible acid-rain, dust-storm, SOLAR LASER DEATH, roaming death clouds, and so many more bizarre and thrilling open-world experiences.

No doubt, just buy this game.

>build beautiful home with limited resources
>sow the fields with cloth to build our religious attire

>celebrate and religiously prepare the ceremony
>rip out his organs and buy cool biomods with the profits
>day 25
>welcome new "volunteers" to the colony
>12 hour shifts in the reeducation center making art about "feminism"
>all art proceeds belong to the grand feminist Joanne
>purchase more burkas for Jeffrey, remark about how great of an ally he is
>profit and repeat until everyone is an 'ally' to our feminist ways

October Review 2019!

Well heck the holidays are ahead of us so I suppose this game should be visited as well.

I picked this game up on sale and then horizons around the holidays, so I don't feel too well invested in the price of the game (~$40).

Gameplay:

~Combat
Between quick games in arena, and some light pvp, and pve there is a lot to experience in combat. If there is a niche you choose to fill in combat you will it with this game.

~~Arena
Arena can be very fun, quick and visceral matches catch the eye and build up some interest in the core gameplay of combat. I would say you should take a gander at Arena first to really figure out your control scheme in combat.

~~Open Play and Multiplayer

Elite Dangerous offers very engaging combat experience, but can fall flat if you don't catch the right encounters. PVP intradiction events are rare, so I wouldn't say to expect any PVP unless you are looking for it. This isn't like other Space Sims where PVP will creep up and force you into awkward encounters.

PVE is where this game shines, challenging encounters and really awe inspiring scenes define Elite Dangerous as the good game it hides away. Even the common 'combat zone' gameplay is visually stunning and leaves enough time between the player looting, fighting, and gauging individual dogfights to allow the game to breathe. Unlike many other battle zones you would find in other simulators, there is a level of roleplay I often find. I'm often on the edge of my seat gripping my flightstick and switches during these encounters. The time between combat does allow me to get very deep into the role of a commander in this universe.

Larger PVE events, and finding a squadron to fly with are this games defining moments. What could fall into the shelves of obscurity among stunning visual space sims avoids that pitfall with well defined events. The recent October event allowed a distinct gameplay moment for myself. I took to a LFG service, and found some other newbie commanders to fly with. We found ourselves interested in this sudden change in the universe, deeply roleplaying with the parameters Frontier Developments wanted to put foward. Funny enough, we spoke how we wanted to bounty hunt and figure out who is looting any transports of food to the inners. The galactic forces felt very present, and our attempt at bounty hunting left us empty handed time and time again. Our newbie stature lead to super close calls and us suddenly feeling strapped for money. It was hard to find baddies among players... so we became the baddies. It was easy pickings for us, and flying in a squadron with a few veterans of the genre made us a seriously powerful squadron. A large cargo ship, a sniper ship, and two close and fast flyers that packed a punch. We could WHOP a transport, take their goods right before they were about to offload, disguise... and sell off the rest. It was so engaging, and most of which was PVE.

~Trade and Exploration

They don't call this game space trucker for nothing. An entire subcommunity exists that is dedicated to mapping out the best trade data, live updating it, and finding the best trade routes and the riskiest. There exists a number of tools, and community run websites that are dedicated to this cause. Trade is engaging, you find yourself suddenly losing your ethics to pixelated moral delemas. Do I smuggle in this goods? Human cargo *trafficking* is even more lucrative...

Then suddenly it becomes clear the impact of your smuggling and moral misgivings. It's so easy to let cargo be represented by numbers until someone hails you down and declares you as the scum you are for trafficking.

~~Exploration

There's a lot to say here. I'm always taken back when I arrive in a new system, visually we can start there. I would say among the graphics of each individual star system there is good and bad. Things can look really silly sometimes, bad placements of installations and debris fields. Strange generation of extrasolar and solar objects is a real downfall here. This makes exploring tedious sometimes. You may find an extrasolar object that is relatively interested or packed with lore of some kind, or instead find a poorly generated barren rock. You won't know until you find it. However, once you log your discoveries and charts and other data you collect, the universe is affected. It's worth it to find a system someone else has gone through and logged into the map since the interesting planets installations and other solar objects will now be seen quicker. There's an amazing universe here, and I always find it fun to relax and travel as far as I can in the other direction.

You'll find freaky things, unsettling scientific installations, well guarded private military installations, or just crazy gas clouds. All of these things can be visually complex and stunning, or have a level of jank that drives that immersion into the ground.

~Microtransactions

I can remember when microtransactions in this game fell on the backburner. A time before endless cosmetic upgrades only sat behind a dollar sign and a deep dive into my wallet. I've never fallen into microtransactions in this game. They're secondary to gameplay. That aside, for a game so well defined visually, it is really frustration when painting a pirate ship with radical colors costs you real world money. It's not too bad, but it's not out of the way. We can sum it up to annoying.

~Final Thoughts

I believe Elite: Dangerous is well worth it's full price cost and the price of the additional visual content (via DLC.) The many negative reviews come from a place of caring about this game, because it has so much to offer. There are other reviews here that will make you question the company and what this game is about. There are plenty of other opinions on the state of the game and others interpretation of this company.
