They'll come up with any worthless reason just to have an excuse to say "We're ending support for Windows XP". Kill the old, shove the new down my throat, right? There was DFO which supposedly ended support for XP when, if I'm not mistaken, the actuality was that its launcher simply used a later version of Internet Explorer. Certainly a problem which could not be resolved in a plethora of other ways! I don't know what the hell Battle.net's deal was, now Steam is coming up with the most basic and pathetic of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ reasons just to give us the boot. Well blow me, Steam - we're done. I'm sticking with XP, I don't give much of a ♥♥♥♥ about all the money I threw on you, cause I expected you'd screw me over eventually, plus I don't really care about money. I expect that I'll still be able to access the website, so that's all for me after 2019 begins. Doesn't matter what OS I'm using, if something ditched XP I'm through with it.

Hmm, how slow is XP today? Well, Kepler is the last nVidia architecture for it (Maxwell works fully with an .inf hack), but no Pascal cards for 3D. No idea about AMD though. As for platforms, Sandy/Ivy Bridge-E should be the fastest with full driver support, so X79 chipset. That's afaik (Again: No idea about AMD).

SSDs work if you're careful with TRIM support and if you take care about alignment. But you'd be limited to SATA, no NVMe. Good SATA SSDs are still plenty fast though I'd say.

One of the fattest setups might look like an i7-4960X or Xeon E5-2687W with a GTX Titan X, 64GB RAM and maybe some Intel or Samsung SSD. USB 3.0 works too, but USB 3.1 won't.

So that's about it. When using fast HW like that, XP will fly. I'd always use XP x64 though, because of the RAM. You can make the NTFS cache much bigger on x64, so cached I/O will be much faster when using XP x64, and you can actually make use of at least some 64-bit software (like Photoshop CS6, Blender, x264/x265 etc).

Hi guys. I'm still on XP x64 myself, and I'm into making stuff work on the OS or in trying to push it as far as possible. Currently running on a 600GB Intel SSD (TRIM via Intel Toolbox) using a hexcore Xeon and 48GB RAM, plus a GPT-formatted 54TiB data RAID-6.

I'm also testing Steam games that specify Win Vista/7 in their reqs on XP/XP x64, sometimes hacking them to work on the OS (things akin to KawaiiSaras XCOM hack or UncleVasyas' Stellaris hack etc., soon I'll have one for Nekopara Vol.3, based on that one).

I've also looked at making different other things work on XP x64, like native ASPI, UDF 2.5 for BDs, SSD TRIM, MSSE x64, x265, HTML5 with H.264/AVC, etc. Plus, turning it into a "better" OS using GNU on Windows, VirtualDimension, clink and so on.

I'm hoping for ExtendedXP to cover XP x64 in the future as well, so we can all happily run Win Vista/7 binaries on it. :P
