"We just have to wait until AAA publishing collapses under their own pile of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥."
thats so funny and so wrong :D
waiting does nothing good. the clock is ticking and ♥♥♥♥ happens all the time.

Hi folks! I know this is short notice, but I wanted to let you know that I sadly won't be able to do any moderating for this group anymore. I'm afraid I'm spread too thin these days, and really need to cut down on my Steam groups, guilds, Discords, etc. etc. etc. Too much to moderate!

Anyway, I wish you all the best! It was great being with you for as long as I was!

Campy, Yellow, thank you both especially for making me feel so welcome! Take care out there, and don't be a stranger!
CampyMcLurkstein 6 Oct, 2020 @ 8:36pm
I agree and can't afford to eat much less pay for digital video games in this greedy world. All so some exec who doesn't give a F about gaming can live on the hog.
Biggest problem is the game publishers and bloated marketing teams. I block all ads anyways. Worthless profession gaming could do without.
Also don't feel guilty about dl'ing free games when companies are handing out free copies to influencers.
They make a killing on digital sales due to the lack of production costs.
Also games should not be more expensive than film. Never should have been.
This is coming from a minimalist who makes a measly $10K a year in the communist USSA after the Gov steals more than half my income to reward themselves. And to bailout game studios.
Vinz Clortho 20 Sep, 2020 @ 3:15am
You don't own your games. You are only renting them from Steam. If you die or close your account, you can't bequeath the games to someone else or download them to your PC. The ownership reverts back to Valve.
Steam was/is the worst thing to ever happen to gaming. There was no "DLC" before steam, there were standalone expansion packs that were basically full games themselves.
Review manipulation, trade scamming, lootboxes, aggressive DLC marketing, online gaming addiction - all started when steam came.
Imagine someone from Microsoft coming to your house and taking all your software away because you were caught cheating in an online game.
The games on my steam account probably add up to several thousand pounds, yet I can be completely barred from accessing them at any time Valve chooses. The idea that you own your steam games is completely wrong. It's ironic really to see how the developers themselves have ruined their own industry through greed. Oh well.
CampyMcLurkstein 22 Dec, 2019 @ 4:50am
Not just ENBs, but the NVIDIA control panel (or AMD) can do some work with aliasing effects. Certain console port types like Dark Souls Remastered are better handled with a GPU than the
in-game aliasing and Vsync options.

Been doing Tiberian Sun recently with a repack made by someone on CNCnet. I actually really like the rough visuals, like Starcraft 1. These graphics don't age. And it looks brutal compared to the more cartoony look of Starcraft 2.

Darkest D and Mistover are randomized dungeon looters with multiple characters to level. Mistover has animes without mods. A new genre of games thanks to the amazing Darkest Dungeon which is very spicy on Nexus and even here on Steam mods. Can't have that in Fallout 76, boring without some cultured mods.
Nemo, Forevermore 16 May, 2019 @ 3:13am
I second that notion @CampyMcLurkstein. There is already a massive catalogue of very good games out there, many of which have ENB, SweetFX, or ReShade mods available for free which brings them much closer to [insert current year] gaming.

I've been playing games like Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen, Invisible Inc., Pillars of Eternity, Ori and the Blind Forest, and many others. I have built up a library of over 500 games, expecting the gaming industry to take a massive dump on gamers.

Perseverance will see us through. We just have to wait until AAA publishing collapses under their own pile of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Then developers can go back to making games again, instead of pumping out overpriced Skinner Boxes. :creedy::2spooky::sc_gibberish:
CampyMcLurkstein 16 May, 2019 @ 2:49am
To everyone freaking out about how the industry has only gotten worse, and will continue to do so.
Remember we have a rich backlog of older games. Visuals are not everything. I'd rather play the dark tabletop feel of Diablo 1 than Diablo 3 with rainbows for instance.
Learn how to add mods as well. The only reason I stick around here on Steam. The Workshop, it's amazing and still freeware.
I will never play a live service or stream to play. They aren't even fun, and they are always kid-friendly for the current day which does not interest me at all. No Fortnite for me. Too busy playing Manhunt which is far more challenging than playing against the average bunny-hopping casual online.
I've been absent. Playing Diablo 1, Warcraft RTS series (all 3), and other great games that actually keep my mind busy. Not my credit card. War3 on HiveWorkshop is what I like about gaming.
TripleTea 29 Mar, 2019 @ 9:34am
It's not neat if there's input delays and freezes...imho, you would still need decent hardware (a good monitor, above average internet connection with 1:1 up/down ratio) to even stream the damn game...so it's really just a stupid ploy like DLCs...obsolete made necessary.

in the end I think only the ISPs and Google would make a ♥♥♥♥ ton of money while the users will eventually have to pay an arm and a leg just to play a single game.

also, it seems like someone else is footing the bill but with the sub fee(s) it's like your bank account is being drained indefinitely...
Michael 27 Mar, 2019 @ 1:31pm
The "idea" behind streaming your games is sort of neat. Rather than having to buy the expensive hardware yourself to run it, you let someone else foot the bill. In theory you would get to play something that's two generations higher than your actual in-home setup.

Still, I would rather have my own setup, and my own copy of the game. I don't rent.
TripleTea 27 Mar, 2019 @ 11:33am
I just read more on Google Stadia and seems like you stream your games?....wtf? that's the worst idea to have...so much bandwidth wastage lol...

Google is getting out of hand as well with their Android Play Store acting more and more like Apple's App Store where they force updates down your throats and unless you update, those apps are just icons on your phone...

I'm seriously hoping for a new Google to kick Google's ass since they're turning more and more into Apple as the years go by...:2016whoadude:
TripleTea 27 Mar, 2019 @ 11:32am
It sure does sound absurd to me as PSN or Xbox's subscription-based bs...(prolly why I don't game on consoles either lol)

And the thing about "owning our games/products" is the fact that everyone has been accepting all the End-User agreement bs (which nobody even reads or takes seriously) which states that we, "buyers" don't own it at all so there's really no "owning" of anything to begin with, hence leading game companies to make it a standard and think they can keep doing it since the very beginning...

I think the overall success of subscription-based games has been bad so I think the gaming community should be sensible enough to reject Google Stadia bs just like consoles...PC gaming is/was/will be the next big thing...

It's so stupid to even try and limit your playerbase to a specific console and yet they're trying to push it a step further by putting subscription to play?!?:steamfacepalm:
Michael 22 Mar, 2019 @ 6:50pm
Is anyone else as concerned as I am about the possible success of Google Stadia and other similar platforms in the future? I honestly almost hope it fails.

I worry greatly about "gaming as a service." What happens when we can no longer purchase and own our products, and everything becomes a subscription?

Yea sadly, Steam has been overflooded with all kinds of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ "games" and abandonware that Valve does little to even confirm they work to begin with. They have been trying to get back on track in the last couple of years, but there is much wrk to do yet.
Michael 30 Jul, 2018 @ 6:55pm
Oh, lovely. Now even THIS is a thing we have to watch out for on Steam? And here I thought games on this platform were safe.

CampyMcLurkstein 21 Jul, 2018 @ 4:05am
I don't know about you but I find the modern microtrans game expereince to be so unfulfilling.
I played the Magic Duels "free to install and grind."
Earning little gold coins to use for unlocking more cards breaks the whole progression experience to me for a video game. Not the best example, but I hope you know what I mean.

In previous Magic games a card was unlocked after winning a match. No silly gold coins that have nothing to do with the game.
The Magic Duels gold coins for card packs seriously really did feel like online gambling to me. And I never even spent real money there :D
To be honest though, that game has a reasonable light grind. You could easily get all the cards for free no problem.

I don't like gambling, unless it 100% in the gameplay as a mini game of sorts. Such as the Fallout New Vegas or GTA San Andreas casinos or something.
CampyMcLurkstein 21 Jul, 2018 @ 3:53am
Not really look for a new hobby, but look at past titles for real games. Games before 2010 are usually a safe bet with low prices. 2015 is where it gets tricky. I always use a 5 years after game launch rule. I don't do Early Access.

By the way check out Battle For Wesnoth. Legit freeware game. It used to be tucked away on a website, but it's on Steam now. I guess it got Greenlighted?
Hilariously enough I guess the mobile version is monetized.
Whatever, I got an updated desktop PC just this last holiday. And a $10 flip phone that is 5-10 years old no contracts.
Michael 19 Jul, 2018 @ 11:18am
I especially loved how all these "top people" are from EA, Ubisoft, and Microsoft.
Michael 19 Jul, 2018 @ 11:05am
Eww. It might be time to start looking for a new hobby.

Oh damn. Map editing a campaign? That's some deep work there :)
I tried doing something with Tactics making a custom party, but never finished it :/
Michael 16 Jul, 2018 @ 2:08pm
Been forever since I played the original Fallout games, but I do remember all kinds of neat mods and trainers that let you do stuff like that. :-) There was also a nifty little map editor I used to dabble with to try and create a custom campaign. It was fun to mess around with.
CampyMcLurkstein 16 Jul, 2018 @ 10:48am
Thanks Michael. I missed Xenonauts :/ Been playing other games apart from Steam.
I like classic XCOM with the mod. OPENXCOM I believe, it's an amazing freeware mod. I got a HD soundtrack mod also :)
Anybody play classic Fallout? If so I know how to unlock control for all party members for combat purposes (•_•) (•_•)>⌐■-■ (⌐■_■) Yes, you can play as Dogmeat <3
Michael 5 Jun, 2018 @ 9:53am
Hi folks! Lots of nice things happening on GOG right now! First off, be sure to claim Xenonauts absolutely free of charge!
https://www.gog.com/game/xenonauts

Second, they're doing their "GOG Connect" thing again, where a handful of games will be added free to your GOG library if you already own them on Steam! Check it out here: https://www.gog.com/connect

And on top of all that, they have a pretty nice sale going on!

Enjoy! :steamhappy:

@Michael: Yes. It is their 20th anniversary of Unreal. Free on both platforms until 10am PST tomorrow. It was announced on Epic Games' Twitter yesterday morning.

Hei guys and garls! I need EVERYBODY reading the last announcement please! IF we allow small, crowdfunded independent developers to pull out this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, then what hope can we have for AAA big studios to be any more consumer friendly with their bussiness practices?
Michael 31 Mar, 2018 @ 2:36pm
Consider it voted. :-)
Yellow 31 Mar, 2018 @ 2:22pm
Btw for the people who uses GoG.com , i would apreciate your help/vote on this:

https://www.gog.com/forum/general/request_for_community_wishlist_features_to_be_added

The Community Wishlish has been on BETA for more than 5 years now, with no major features added during that time period... i think the suggestions i made would be a good solid step into taking it out of its BETA phase.
Yellow 31 Mar, 2018 @ 2:17pm
Thanks a lot Michael, i really appreciate your updates and info on bundles and limited time offers :) Plus they help keep the group alive ;)
Michael 27 Mar, 2018 @ 12:41am
Incoming spam. :D

Feeling a little . . . dark? Then good news! The Darkness 2 is free on Humble Bundle right now for the next day and a half! Grab it here [www.humblebundle.com] while it's still available!

Michael 24 Mar, 2018 @ 6:10am
And yes, Trance was the one who banned you from discussions. I found all your stuff, along with his responses. lol

I think the main reason he gave you the boot was because you started additional threads pertaining to the same subject, and continued to address someone by name after a moderator already locked it. While yes, this does violate Steam's EULA for the community discussion boards, the developer could have handled things way better. Instead, he came off as very unprofessional, and not someone I would ever buy a game from. (DLC issues aside.)

While I understand the need to moderate these conversations (it's a touchy subject that is sure to raise people's tempers), it's still a conversation that needs to be had, or nothing will ever change.
Michael 24 Mar, 2018 @ 6:10am
Yours was just a discussion thread though. This thing here that I mentioned was an actual "review" in the review section that was banned, which I didn't know could be done. In this case, I'm glad it was. I just hope it stays limited to cases like that one.
CampyMcLurkstein 24 Mar, 2018 @ 2:59am
Trance is the one who banned me I believe. Someone selling a product for profit bans feedback when it's not praise. This industry is beyoind corrupt.
Michael 23 Mar, 2018 @ 6:52pm
Haaaaah. That review I posted a link to last night actually got banned. I didn't know that could actually happen.

As long as it's only for crap like this, it's very refreshing to see.
Nemo, Forevermore 23 Mar, 2018 @ 9:45am
Review bombing works so well against shady business practices that people now use it for political or ideological smear campaigns.
Michael 23 Mar, 2018 @ 4:04am
I think this "review" says all it needs to about its fanboy community, too.
http://eo.steamhost.cc/steamcommunity_com/id/hiiwanttodie/recommended/236850/

Also, if @Trance is a developer, he sounds quite unprofessional.

Were I a lesser person, I would buy the game, review bomb it, then refund it. Sadly, Steam has enough problems with people doing that for games that are actually good.
Michael 23 Mar, 2018 @ 3:44am
lol I marked "not interested" on that a loooong time ago for that very reason. It's seriously getting out of hand.
CampyMcLurkstein 23 Mar, 2018 @ 3:30am
Check out the pricing model here - http://eo.steamhost.cc/app/236850/Europa_Universalis_IV/

When did Steam turn into Amazon anyways? Soundtracks, E-books?

Got banned immediately when questioning the pricing after having an ad appear upon loading Steam :P
