Breaking: Michigan House Passes Religious 'License To Discriminate' Bill

Michigan House Republicans just passed a religious "license to discriminate" bill, which would allow anyone (even doctors) to refuse service to anyone and claim their "religious beliefs" require them to discriminate.

A Christian told me the secret to happiness today.
"Put away your microscope and telescope and your education from your university and your own understanding and become as a child and believe because I have told you that Jesus Christ is God and you shall not only change in this life, but will be changed for all eternity."

On the first day, prokilla said, let there be an Atheist steam group and so one was made.
Now the group was formless and empty.
On the second day, prokilla said, let all free minds who oppose tyranny join this group and so it was done.
On the forth day, prokilla said, let this forum fill with information and friendship, and all in the group made it so.
Prokilla saw that the information was good and was glad in it.........hahahahah

Seeing everyone come together, in only one week, is nothing less than amazing.
Thanks to all for your involvement and dedication, so religious hypocrisy and ignorance will not go unchallenged.

Nice quote Zef. I have thought about this. We can select 1 member of Atheism World Wide and the opposing will also select 1 member to represent their team. This way we don't have 200 people yelling at eachother. There will be a topic set. It will be moderated. It will be in standered debate format. Opening Statement-Rebuttal-Cross Examination-Second Rebuttal-Closing Statement-Audience Questions. There can be no winners or losers. Both teams will claim to have won. Our objective, is to reach one person at a time. If we can make one person re-think their position, then we accomplished our goal. I'm still trying to pin down the details. I will update as new information is available. Thank you

Love the debate Idea Prokilla, but watch out for christian double speak! Any ground rules or moderators managing the dialouge?
Prokilla 18 Apr, 2014 @ 9:24pm
Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us Creep. My only criticism would be this. I don't think you need the teachings of any book to treasure your life. This almost falls within the same lines as the bible. Atheism by itself is logic and reason. The value of your life can only be determined by you. A book can not tell your value. Knowing this life is the only one we have is value enough. The choice, of course, is up to you. You are welcome to be apart of this community, if you would like to be. Thanks again.

As an anti-theist (ironically enough), I'm against most faiths that include an all knowing and all controling god. I'm supportive of religions/groups such as atheism, nontheistic Buddhism (partially), agnosticism, LaVey, etc. I do not believe Satan or any other of the mainstream religion or cult gods. I'm only considering LaVeyan because I agree with most of it's teachings of enjoying your life and treasuring every moment of it. Because any of us, could die tommorow, or in an hour, or in a minute, or just a few seconds. If I did join, I would still be an atheist but with a stronger value of life, logic, and reason.
Thank you for the response
Prokilla 18 Apr, 2014 @ 6:52pm
Many of LaVey's close friends such as Ed webber insists that he did believe in a literal Devil. I will admit, some of his writings will keep yopu guessing at times. How do you feel about this? Do you think that there is a deity also know as Satan? If you consider yourself athiest, I would have no problem having you in the group.
st. john 18 Apr, 2014 @ 3:55pm
I have a question for this group. I've been looking more into LaVeyan Satanism, also known as Atheistic Satanism, and I think I'm really getting into it. I'm thinking of taking it a step higher in to LaVeyan. What are your opinions? Also, if I happened to go through with it, would I still be allowed in this community?
Thanks,
Creep

Thanks for the invite! One of the few decent atheist groups I've seen on here. Happy to be a part of it. Now, when do I get the secret decoder ring?
Prokilla 16 Apr, 2014 @ 4:07pm
So my childs school is doing a "academic egg hunt" on the friday before easter. The school says it has nothing to do with religion at all :/. This is not the frist time I have had a problem with this school and I have only lived here in GA for about 7 months now. The first problem arose when they taught my 5 year old the "world so sweat" song as part of a thanksgiving play. If you have not heard this song before it goes like this.

"Thank you for the world so sweet,
Thank you for the food we eat.
Thank you for the birds that sing,
Thank you God for everything."

It is nothing short of a prayer. I had this prayer taken out of the curriculum and now this. It never stops. My child is there to learn. Stop wasting my childs time with this nonsense.
Prokilla 16 Apr, 2014 @ 2:52pm

Prokilla 16 Apr, 2014 @ 1:11pm
Agreed Zef. It is this denial of facts that push us even further as atheists. Napoleon said: "Religion is what keeps the poor from murdering the rich.” This is why the media perpetuates religion. The super rich want to keep this lie alive. How else can they convice the poor that they will inheart the earth. The idea that you may have a bad life now but don't worry you will get a better deal next time. It seems to me as if the bible was written in a room by a group of highly powerful men. Possibly by the Roman Piso family. One of the best weapons we have to combat these unthruths is the bible itself.
Zef_SoFresh 15 Apr, 2014 @ 8:27pm
You know that this kind of blantant denial of facts is all too common in todays society. Not only in religious rethoric, but in politics and the media as well. I'm mean look at the large audience FOX News commands and the knowlingly lies to. This phenomenon is also know as cognitive dissonance. http://psychology.about.com/od/cognitivepsychology/f/dissonance.htm

This is also commonly known as FAITH.
Prokilla 15 Apr, 2014 @ 7:50pm
I just got into a debate with a fellow steam member. It would appear this person is in complete and utter denial about the horrible things religion has done and still does in the world today.

He justifies it by saying none of these actions were religousless inspired.
The salem witch trials for example. He says this was nothing more then a power struggle between men and women. He says that secular beleifs have by far killed more people than all religious wars in history. Another example is Joan of arc. He says she was killed for wearing mens clothing and not at all for heresy. Rejecting all knowledge of her being burnt as a witch by the English. Religion played no part in it at all according to him. Even the law that women cannot wear mens clothing had nothing to do with religous beliefs according to this person.
At every turn he had an excuse on how religion was not at fualt.

What are your thoughts on this matter?
