To the guy who just sent Feedback for SlaloM: "................ And no, my steam account is not private in any way."

I can't respond to you, because the built-in feedback function - like everything else - is very privacy-conscious: I have no clue who you are or how to contact you.

Whoopsee ... wasn't active here for 999 eons, so I didn't see your question there. Added friend request. Fair warning: Once you accept it and ask a question, I will probably again not see it for a long time. - Sorry. (My life is rather full right now.)

Hello I have a question about Slalom, could you add me?

*** UPDA... no not really.

But I've got a new tasty piece of software, fresh from the oven:

DirTreeTagger [dreamspace-president.com]

Brings the power of SlaloM's tagging to your directory trees. It has opened up a world that is still new and weird even to me, but the benefits are undeniable, and our department benefits greatly from it, gives us a much better grasp of our server tree so that we can do the overdue optimization. And spawned a support ticket system on-the-fly.

Hot recommendation to manage the files/folders you're manually organizing on your desktop PC!

I really didn't expect the (first steps of the) chart feature to unfold this quickly, let alone that I'd release the full version today already.

Here are two screenshots of the chart - only one game selected, so it looks rather boring:

https://imgur.com/a/wS4MliZ

The lower one, with the screenshot file dates, shows that there were quite a few play sessions of "Driver: San Francisco" before the recorded sessions in the upper chart, probably because the session recording feature itself is still relatively new.

The chart form expresses that I gradually lost interest in playing that game (for a while, at least). If more than one game were visible, you could possibly see why. I mean, maybe I rather played something else. Or whatever. It's yet another one of SlaloM's nice data mining tools.

*** UPDATE ALERT ***

The first release since April 2017. Can show chart of selected games' play sessions or screenshot-taking. Game name column is now first (MUCH better). Screenshot tile view also of all shots for ONE game. More sort options. Automated browser Steam purchase data download FIXED. F9 for activate-productkey-dialog (kinda) fixed. Annoying systemwide ^^ ~~ ´´ not working when SlaloM running "fixed".

New main version upcoming "soon". Fixed purchase history download via browser automation. Fixed register product key. "Fixed" annoying ^^ ~~ ´´ keyboard behavior when SlaloM is running.

And I'm about to play around with https://knowm.org/open-source/xchart/ within SlaloM a little now, it s a lib I have used at work and grown to like. Who knows, maybe you'll get some graphical stats about your games in this release.
God, owner of the Universe 17 Feb, 2019 @ 2:41am
Tiny new version:

Game name is now the first column instead of last. That change was so damn necessary, I couldn't help but make it right now.

Reason: If you have multiple columns visible, you'll have to scroll to the right ... every damn time ... if you want to see the game name. That's over now.

https://dreamspace-president.com/projects/SlaloM/SlaloM_v39pre2.jar

Since I haven't touched this code for a long time, and the column had also been the last for a long time, I am not entirely sure if this change causes problems, but I haven't experienced any yet.

I'm taking a "permanent" break from the SlaloM project (development etc.), because I just don't feel like working on it these weeks. This is just like in the years before now, where I sometimes worked on it and oftentimes didn't. Site and downloads stay up, of course.

Google ads are permanently suspended because even though they helped a lot with increasing downloads (on the days when there were ads, not permanently), the €180 so far seem wasted: The logs strongly suggest that the amount of actual users has not increased. I'd rather stuff my face or buy games with this money then.

As I said not 1 comment page ago, cillosis was working on a different list concept for http://keygiveaway.com/ - I see that he's done now! Identical submissions are combined into one entry, and there are two lists: One for pending keys, one for unlocked keys.

Nice! So, starting this evening, there will be keys again.

Oh look, a new release! (Kind of.)

http://dreamspace-president.com/projects/SlaloM/SlaloM_v39pre1.jar

"This one's a fresh build that should be safe in every regard, and it has at least one relevant new feature, so you can have it already right now: In screenshot tiles view , when you click on a game, you'll get another screenshot tiles view only showing the screenshots of this game, in chronological order, already scrolled to the position of the random shot that you clicked. Also, the minimum amount of tiles has been reduced to one , which is great for browsing the one game's shots."

What else is new?

Fixed "yearss" typo.

Added new sort option: Original name! Now you can enjoy the fruits of your renaming-labor even more!

DurationRun has additional options: 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s

New status tag: "without screenshot". Needs scan, so there's a hotkey for that now: CTRL+F5

"So, what about the next version?" - Nothing big so far. v38:

Menu item to go to your Steam review of a game (only helpful if you have one).

Can search for numbers in the names - to get appids, just add "appid" directly before the number. (Was stupid to have it search for appids by default.)

Fused the two Steam review columns and added some options to it, e.g. sorting by amount of digits of the user count first, so you get several percentage-sorted lists in one, first for most users, then for user count with less digits, and so forth.

Something that just came in handy: The name column has options now, too, e.g. showing a Reddit forum link instead of just the name, incl. the two extra spaces at the end for easy list pasting.

Moved some buttons around. Some fixes.

BIG UPDATE! One of the biggest yet.

Significant improvements to usability and organization.

Price-per-hour column.

And you can play Memory with your games' screenshots and data, e.g. with different images of the same game in one set, or an image on one card and the name on another.

And now - drumroll - the DPcom extra Steam data (with developer, publisher, review summary) is part of SlaloM right away! And of course more.

What do you know. Some other guy on Reddit was looking for a way to find the games a specific group of users have in common (for LAN parties), so I just added the function to SlaloM.

Since I gave the guy a download, here's a link to this pre-release:

https://dreamspace-president.com/projects/SlaloM/SlaloM_v37pre2.jar
God, owner of the Universe 21 Feb, 2017 @ 3:05am
In case you wonder why I stopped posting keys on keygiveaway.com (even though I still have over a thousand keys that I bought specifically for this purpose):

I'm waiting for cillosis (The developer.) to implement some features. One of them: Unclaimed keys would be combined per game, so 100 pending "The Deer" keys would become only 1 entry.

Currently, I'd post a key, three people would see it, and then it would be pushed back by 20 pages in under 5 minutes, possibly gaining 1 new (Temporary?) member per 5-10 keys. For SlaloM's sake, I'm trying to benefit from the fact that a claimed key is still visible, I mean, this is not a charity.

And FYI: For the Google ads since February 2nd, I already spent almost €90 with no gain other than people downloading the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing. (Downloads via the ad are somewhere above 70 so far.)

So, again: Please - spread the word. Just tell a friend, ok.
God, owner of the Universe 21 Feb, 2017 @ 1:07am
Some guy on Reddit was looking for a way to get a list of all DLC they don't own yet, so I just added the function to SlaloM. It was already in there for individual games (Select game, look at the bottom of the text in "edit library" mode.), but now there's a bulk list export.

Comes with a few grains of salt, but it should be helpful. Since I gave the guy a download, here's a link to this pre-release (without Memory game):

https://dreamspace-president.com/projects/SlaloM/SlaloM_v37pre.jar

Should be stable, am using it myself, haven't discovered problems yet with the new Tag code (that was remade from scratch).
God, owner of the Universe 20 Feb, 2017 @ 2:29am
Couldn't resist starting with a data game. It will be a viciously configurable Memory game:

- amount of tiles overall
- tiles face-down or not
- if all tiles are identical (e.g. why not pair different images from 1 game each)
- games from the whole library or only from current list
- data from only one game or from several
- hours played min / max
- months owned min / max
- how many image tiles there will be in a set, because not only can you have sets with more than 2 tiles, you can even have tiles that are not images
- if a potential text tile has game name
- or purchase date
- or date last played
- or duration played
- or installation size etc. etc. etc.

And I had another idea: Screenshot jigsaw puzzles! The kicker: You could play several images (aka puzzles) at once from a pile of puzzle pieces.
God, owner of the Universe 19 Feb, 2017 @ 7:16am
Name search tags done. And something that was really overdue, but I only thought of it now: Example tags! When there are no name search tags yet, the program will create some on start (which should happen to the handful of users that update to v37 once it's out). When there are no standard tags yet, the program will create some on start incl. (sub)groups. Came up with a few inspiring examples.

But while the to-do list got a wee bit shorter this weekend, it also grew again by a few entries. One of them:

DATA GAMES! Concentration (aka Memory). Or find the two matching screenshots each (so this time all are visible right away, but the pairs have different images of the same game). Guess the installation size or drive. Order screenshots of one day temporally. And so forth.

Should be fun cause you're not just looking at cute animals but at data you personally care about and that has your personal gaming history in them.
God, owner of the Universe 18 Feb, 2017 @ 8:18am
Tag list now separated into several tabs. Does make handling a lot smoother.

Today I spontaneously thought that there should not just be tag groups but also tag sub-groups, so now there are. (E.g. make a group for bundles, then make a sub-group for every bundle store.)

Next up: The aforementioned name search tags.
God, owner of the Universe 13 Feb, 2017 @ 4:42am
Had another kick-ass idea: Name search tags. In addition to the hard-coded tags and the ones you can make and assign, there could be tags that work just like the filter text box, except you just click them, incl. of course the three states (green, yellow, red).

So, make such a tag with text "" dlc"", and only games with the space-separated word "dlc" will show up or be excluded. Other examples: "cities", "batman", "half-", "truck", "simulator", "®", "™"

Btw., I'll probably revamp the tag list, it's still too crowded, makes usage inefficient. There should be tabs at the top for the main tag groups (hard-coded, Steam, etc.)
God, owner of the Universe 13 Feb, 2017 @ 2:55am
OMFG! The screenshot files ... they have time stamps! I could make a tool that derives play sessions from that!

Btw., you can edit the price paid in the next version, so where you don't have an import, or where the import seems wrong (e.g. $20 purchase that came with DLC right away, so the same price is assigned to all those entries), you can change it.
God, owner of the Universe 13 Feb, 2017 @ 12:46am
And some of my "worst" games:

0000:00:00 06.80 407.40 LEGO - Indiana Jones 2
0000:00:00 06.80 407.40 Victor Vran
0000:00:00 07.50 449.40 LEGO - The Hobbit
0000:00:00 09.00 539.40 Blackguards
0000:00:00 10.00 599.40 Tropico 5

Cause I didn't play them at all yet (yes, shame on me). For the price-per-hour calculation, SlaloM uses min. 1 minute of time. While the numbers are ridiculous, this allows to realize what the greatest waste of money is, or rather, it is a player's to-do list!

I also added an option to the price-per-hour column (You know, the new concept that was introduced with v36 that was released yesterday.) which caps the result to the price of the game, and of course this also changes the sorting.

With that option activated, here are my worst crimes:

0000:51:00 13.20 13.20 Kerbal Space Program
0000:09:00 13.80 13.80 Evochron Legacy
0001:03:00 16.00 15.23 American Truck Simulator
0000:39:00 15.40 15.40 Legend of Grimrock 2
0000:39:00 17.00 17.00 NeonXSZ
God, owner of the Universe 13 Feb, 2017 @ 12:36am
Wow, how didn't I see this. We have money paid and duration played - in the next version, we therefore also have the price per hour , which is of course not the measure for a game's quality, but it's an important indicator.

So, a sample of my "best" games:

time played, paid, price per hour, name
0211:52:00 03.80 00.02 The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
0170:25:00 04.00 00.02 Deus Ex 3: Human Revolution (Director's Cut)

"Permanent" game-hiding for real. Nice screenshot tiles improvements. Tag notes. All future play sessions are remembered. Ok, it does that now: Records every single session of every game that you play (via SlaloM). And upon database load (Program start.), if there's no record yet but there's a date last played and a duration run, a fake record is created automatically, basically claiming that all those 150 hours of GameX were in that one launch years ago. That's better than - if you decide to play today - losing the information that you accumulated all those hours already years ago .

This data is not yet used for anything - except I just added a column for amount of sessions and one for the longest session . If only we had this data retroactively ...
God, owner of the Universe 10 Feb, 2017 @ 1:56am
0 years ago 0179:39:00 Fallout 3: New Vegas (Ultimate Edition)

5 years ago 0007:38:00 Runaway: A Road Adventure
6 years ago 0005:25:00 Half-Life 2: Episode Two

A first result of what my previous comment talked about. Did I just manually select the first row of each year block? Nope! I also added a slider that allows to define how many identical results of the first sorter will be shown. Still pondering if there should be something similar for the other sorters. (Sorter amount increased to 5 now, by the way. This new concept makes use of more sorters likely.)

There's a huge down-side, though: While this is great for picking good games to play, the act of playing will skew these results next time. The only remedy I can think of would be to record every session, which I was pondering for a while. Sounds like overkill, though.
God, owner of the Universe 8 Feb, 2017 @ 11:06pm
You can "now" also take notes for each tag, visible in tag edit mode (one of the 3 program modes).

And I just had a rather brilliant idea, and simple enough to implement (other than the background-download thing mentioned earlier, that will take a while). The idea sounds very "meh" at first:

Rounding. Optionally, a column like "date last played" or "duration played" etc. could be shown with rounded values (or e.g. "1 month ago", "2 months ago" / "more than 5 minutes", "more than 1 hour", ...) - the kicker would be that it's also sorted like that.

"Huh, I don't see it." Well, it gets interesting once an additional column comes into play. Let's say you wanted to see what games you played for quite a few hours (Therefore: Candidate for playing, cause you 1) apparently like it and 2) know it quite well.), but that you haven't touched in a while.

See? With standard sorting, the secondary criterion never kicks in because the primary criterion has such fine resolution.

:D
God, owner of the Universe 7 Feb, 2017 @ 8:03am
Fixed a completely harmless but annoying bug that could make assigning a tag to many games at once very slow. (Note to self: Don't put cleanup method calls inside the loop.)

And added a simple but probably very much liked feature: "Permanent" hiding of games. This was basically already done via the tags' changeable default value plus the "reset tags" button. But in practice, I often ended up with a cleared tag list where I clicked on tags to create a new filter - thereby seeing all those "permanently" hidden games.

This new feature is a proper "hidden"-flag with its own checkbox. And an additional checkbox atop the app/game list toggles whether you see the normal (filtered or not) games or the hidden (filtered or not) games. Defaults to non-hidden on every start.

Might be a while until v36 because development is currently slow, and I only want to make a new release if there were profound changes/improvements.
God, owner of the Universe 3 Feb, 2017 @ 5:32am
MAYBE upcoming features:

Automatic background-download and up-to-date keeping of more game details from Steam. This would include:

Type (game, DLC, ...). Game description (~50 words). Developer&publisher. Release date.

Supported languages. System requirements. Supported systems.

Steam categories (tags like "Multi-player", "Valve Anti-Cheat enabled"). Genres (e.g "Action").

Full price, current maybe discounted price, discount%.

STORE SCREENSHOTS. This would mean that you could really surf the library with screenshots, because every Steam game/DLC etc. has some.

Metacritic score & link.
God, owner of the Universe 3 Feb, 2017 @ 4:37am
Probably a reasonable solution that doesn't even need to be optional (otherwise just tell me ): Future SlaloM versions will automatically scan the install tree of a game whenever you just finished playing by clicking on SlaloM's game launch screen. The duration is up to 2 seconds (on a slower computer) for a game with tens of thousands of files, I think that's within reason.
God, owner of the Universe 2 Feb, 2017 @ 11:04am
Btw., I just did the experiment: Auto-scan for install size whenever you select a game? Nope. Not good. Bad experience, and my computer is on the fast side.

Next SlaloM version will have an additional column: Amount of files. That's what the scanner will record in the future, too. I just had it scan ~1000 installed games (a bit over 200 seconds) and sorted by amount of files. Winner:

Unturned with 57091 files! 2,333 MB.

Doesn't have to duck, though. Runner-up:

SOMA with 40848 files. 20,830 MB. Such a stellar game.

7th place goes to Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines with 16688 files (3,754 MB).

Polish-&Bugfix- release with few new features: Screenshot-taking! Issues! (In the tip-of-the-day dialog.) And there are (crappy) sounds. Whose volume you can adjust individually.

Sounds: Screenshot-favoriting (2 diff. sounds: on/off), screenshot-taking (2 diff. sounds: success/failure), logo loading screen.

BUG FIX: Deleting rootfolder defs without saving the database is no longer fatal :P

Tip-of-the-day dialog now shows a list of issues you potentially wanna deal with (e.g. Steam path unknown, update-check disabled), click directly gets you to those options.

Reorganized/polished menus a little. Some comfortable shortcuts were added. Some dialogs have been reworked (e.g. Steam path selection). Other GUI improvements.

Added "screenshot manager" which makes opening/creating/understanding the 3 types of screenshot folders a lot easier.

And more.

BUG ALERT: DO NOT delete rootfolder definitions in SlaloM WITHOUT saving the database, else only the settings are saved, and there's currently a bug that will stop SlaloM from running. This is fixed in the upcoming v35 which will possibly be released on Wednesday 2017-02-01 .

Other changes (apart from the screenshotting feature and the screenshot "manager") are a lot of GUI finetuning/updating and some improvements under the hood.
God, owner of the Universe 29 Jan, 2017 @ 4:57am
v35 of SlaloM will be able to take screenshots , but only if the game does not use fullscreen EXCLUSIVE mode. The feature is also still a bit iffy: Arcanum (Old game.) switches to a low resolution, SlaloM's screenshot works but is too big: 3/4 are black, the left top is the game screen. And multiple screens might be a problem, have to evolve the feature.

But I've been able to take screenshots with this for games that do not support the Steam overlay (like e.g. Environmental Station Alpha (pixel art game), Train Fever, Samorost 2), so the feature is definitely an asset!

Screenshots are saved to the "(screenshots)" folder which is automatically created only if the screenshot worked : SlaloM detects if most of the screenshot's colors are identical (while Steam keeps happily shooting black screens after 10 years without batting an eye).

v35 also has a screenshot manager, a central place from which to handle the various folders, which also clarifies the concepts nicely.

*** UPDATE ALERT ***

http://dreamspace-president.com/projects/SlaloM/downloads/SlaloM_v34.txt

BUG FIX RELEASE! The bug kicks in the following situation: You have manually added games in your Steam client (which SlaloM imports), and you also have rootfolder definitions in SlaloM from which games would be scanned. This can lead to an ID collision which makes SlaloM refuse to scan the games from the root folder, may also cause SlaloM to stop responding. This bug was introduced quite a few versions earlier, so it's REALLY TIME to remove it, hence the instant release of v34 once the problem was discovered.

Also, hover-fullscreen screenshot can be "closed" by pressing ESC. Also, screenshot grid and hover-fullscreen work nicely together: If you enter grid view from fullscreen, selecting a game returns you to fullscreen.

Finally, there's now an additional download available that MAKES SLALOM INDEPENDENT OF A JAVA INSTALLATION.

Additional column: The client name! Shows the name you have entered in your root folder client definition. In the case of Steam and SlaloM, it shows "Steam" and "SLALOM" (to prevent visual confusion).

For SlaloM beginners: The black border around the help checkbox blinks quickly so they find out how to get rid of the help texts. And the view/filter/column controls which could be toggled via hovering and clicking around the app/game list filter box can now instead be toggled via a small checkbox next to the filter box. (F8 still works, too.)

I recommend that you wash your hands, because you're likely to lick your fingers for the next release.

Ready? Ok! You can surf your currently displayed game list via this screenshot grid: http://i.imgur.com/1cvDAYi.jpg

Amount of tiles can be switched between 2x2, 3x3, 4x4. Clicking selects the game and returns to the normal view, middle-clicking launches the game, right-clicking opens the usual menu.

Well. For those who found their way here, here are 5 keys:

Too bad KeyGiveaway.com is basically useless these days (except for mass-posting): Someone posted 22+ pages of beta keys, and after almost a week, only 70+ have been claimed.

So, who ever now posts a few individual keys will face the usual ~5 candidates who claim it within 2-10 minutes, and then they are pushed back (because claimed) by 22 pages. Only people who visit the page during that time will get the impression that there's something to be gained by checking out this user group (which, of course, is about SlaloM, not about keys :P)

Anyone who only posts individual keys and would restrict them to a group can forget about KeyGiveaway.com until this conceptual problem is solved. :(

In the next version, you can define all four sorters by clicking the table column headers, not just the first one. And the sort direction (ascending/descending) is shown there.

Also, the current (non-fatal) bug in the installation size scanner is removed: Scanning a non-installed game will indeed set the size to zero instead of just doing nothing.

*** UPDATE ALERT ***

http://dreamspace-president.com/projects/SlaloM/downloads/SlaloM_v32.txt

Extreme GUI improvements: The app/game list now has real table columns, incl. click-for-(invert)sort and adding/removing columns (overall 29). Most dialogs have gotten a slightly more tasty appearance. App list in fullscreen mode now (optionally) shows transparent screenshot.

You can sort by installation size, amount of screenshots, screenshots overall size, install drive, install path, ...

A SIGNIFICANT bug was fixed that caused data-loss! (Regards root folder based games.)

Some measures were taken to make it a little easier for SlaloM newcomers. E.g. tip-of-the-day / general concepts window, and the Steam web API key dialog now has simple instructions, a direct link, and a test button. (For the domain name, just enter anything, it's just a notes-field.)

Assuming I didn't overlook some bugs, you definitely want this one!

The official homepage/site is http(s):/dreamspace-president.com

but it has also been reachable via http(s):/dreamspacepresident.com which redirects there. Starting now, it redirects to the https address, not http. But dreamspace-president.com does not auto-enforce SSL, that seems too iffy because of the free (As in donate.) https://letsencrypt.org/ certificate, I don't want to risk to lock some people out.

Anyway, starting now, there is also http(s):// gamelibrarymanager.com which seems to have been waiting for someone to claim it. It now redirects to https://dreamspace-president.com#SlaloM

My provider is all-inkl.com (been there for almost 13 years). Ordering and setting up the letsencrypt SSL certificate was literally two clicks, then it worked. And ordering the gamelibrarymanager.com domain was not just equally easy - it was live for real less than 5 minutes later!
