Changed before Willem III, when there was no Stadshouder, so no Orange who ruled the Netherlands. The republicans who had the power then, named 'regents', made the state flag red-white-blue becouse they where ofcourse political enemies of the Oranges. Before that the Netherlands did not really had an official flag, altough mostly used the orange-white-blue, while the red-white-blue was also common but less widely used. ;)

And why the orange-white-blue flag on the profile backgrounds? In the time of Willem IV it was changed already for a very long time to red-white-blue. Besides it is now not appropriate to use becouse it is in association with the NSB, de Nationaal Socialistische Bond. translate: the National Socialist Union. The Nazi party of the Netherlands...
