thats very kind of you and personally what i think is the right thing to do, but had my ex not given the ring back i would have not cared too much, i suppose. its just a symbolic object, i had a lot of other things on my mind at that moment.
That's probably why there are so many divorces. I have seen people get engaged and the person they got engaged to change almost instantly. Engagement gives you more time to find out if the person you are planning to hitch up with is genuine. Imagine skipping engagement and going to the chapel just to get divorced in under a year. Good way to lose 60% of your assets.
Reddit has a lot of weird takes, so this doesn't surprise me. The types of people who would keep the ring are the petty type. Which is probably why someone broke it off with them to begin with.
