are VR headsets / glasses good enough to replace a monitor ?

So you have no monitor or some very cheap "Boot up/ Config" monitor
and use the headset / glasses all time.

Also how good works metaquest 3s with steam ? They pretty cheap. Would they work as full monitor replacement ?

Probably not and especially if you cannot touch type perfectly for the entire keyboard, plus it will get very moist in summer heat.

i was digging in the question myself
https://youtu.be/zddQXKS8fGQ

it shows the keyboard. so you see what you typing

the 3s has franell which seems to be more unsharp and the 3 has pankake
from price the 3s would be interesting
the 3 is to expensive to just test it...
but would be ok if it can replace a monitor fulltime

From all I've seen its not a long term solution... but I'm sure for some it can be. Get one of those glasses it needs to be as light and comfortable as possible and then go from there.

Any headset gets annoying to use after a certain amount of time not to mention it totally sucks to use them in any kind of hot/humid weather.

I havent used my quest 2 in years now haha.

any quest headset will not suffice, you need a pimax but also the vr industry overall is low quality crap

just get a good monitor and it'll last 10 years compared to the average consumer vr headset lasting 6 months at most

also OP, DO NOT GET A 3S, they are cheap garbage, had one for myself thought it was good for about 4 months and then the joystick came loose and started breaking (also they only have a 30 day limited warranty) wait for the steam frame to come out and save up for that if you need VR, its a useless gimmick though

People really need to stop fetishizing VR headsets. I love VR but no they aren't a magic solution for anything but VR. People need to stop trying to jam VR in everything.

You really want to strap a screen right next to your eyes!?

How many people will have eye problems because they were using VR headsets while young?

Theres no evidence to suggest that will cause issues. The real issue is not enough time looking at distant objects outside.

I have the quest 3s, i run hardwired to pc due to wireless router being too far away, frenal lenses do lower quality a bit but overall a good experience, can see text clearly and i can setup three virtual monitors or just have one big ass monitor, watching movies is awesome and gaming works fine.

you can dim the virtual lights and focus on the virtual screen and it gives that sense of immersion.

Being wired also means I get longer playtime as it trickle charges from the USB.

Playing games on a virtual huge screen is kind of cool.

The 3S is a budget friendly unit, I have had a quest 2 for years with zero issues and the quest 3S with no issues, my son has a quest 2 that gets beaten daily and fully working fine so not really hot garbage. Also you might only get 30 days warranty but in the EU and the UK where I am we get a full year warranty and if the unit goes faulty not from misuse then we can fall back on the consumer rights act.

any VR headset is complete trash, every VR i've had broke in some sort of way within 6 months, the one exception was my quest 2 that somehow managed to not break for 4 years, but then again it was back when it was made by oculus and materials were real quality

I think there is a common element you are overlooking with your problem of vr being so bad and fragile....
DasKippa 17 Dec @ 2:54am
You would prob be better served with an AR not VR solution, alot more versatile, tend to be cheaper, and a lot less annoying if you don't actually NEED a virtual space. I wouldn't ditch the monitor, in either case. Your almost guaranteed to regret it, from fatigue if nothing else.

I would rather Clearview holograms.
I would say Q3 is almost good enough for that purpose, anything below that no, looks pretty good with a fake monitor in front of you in Virtual Desktop,
I imagine when you get to the 3.8x3.5K per eye like in Pimax Dream Air it's super crisp.
If it was a lack of space or travel thing then it's good enough.
The biggest problem is you don't blink as much in VR so you get dry eyes and eye fatigue after a while.

i've taken perfect care of all of my VR headsets, cleaned the controllers often with the correct stuff, cleaned the lenses perfectly with zero scratches or any damage on those

and yet theres ALWAYS stick drift or the joysticks completely just coming loose despite being gentle on them, i've pulled broken ones apart and they screw in with the lowest quality screws on the lowest quality flimsy boards i've seen in my life
