Steam Input configuration screens are mostly blank
As of today, I noticed that the input configuration screens are entirely nonfunctional. Here you can see the "view" and "edit" screens, showing no mappings and no inputs to map.

The last saved configuration is still functional in the game, and I can select a saved configuration. I just can't view or edit the configurations.

This is in the Windows version of steam, and it happens both:

· Across different games and outside of them, in the desktop configuration
· In the main and beta versions of the client
· With both a DualShock 4 and a DualSense (5) controller
· Running Steam under both my desktop session's Windows account and the other account that I usually run Steam under (for security)

for me "Steam Input configuration" crashes (and Steam itself) as soon as I open it

I'm also having this problem with every game with an Xbox controller and multiple 8bitdo controllers.
i switch my 8bitdo to "D" and it worked, but, the mappings are a bit off now
This is also happening for my Xbox controller on Linux Mint 22.

I tried reinstalling Steam (by deleting all files except Steam.exe, steamapps, and userdata), and it did not help.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Aha, that does fix it. Thank you. I guess when you delete everything, Steam must download a copy from the cloud (I saw an old backup file from 2016 in there), but if you delete just that file, it starts fresh.

This will reset some of your local configuration, so you'll have to go through your Steam settings and set up, for example, broadcast options and some controller options like "use xbox controllers", but it looks like all of your input configurations will be preserved.

For those who need a path, it's in
Steam\userdata\<account ID>\config
.

Can confirm, I see some of my client setting got resetted but my custom controller configs are still there. Thank you Smookio and Corrodias for all the help! :luv:

yeah they did a number on us with an update, that's for sure.

Didn't fix the problem for me.

Seems to be an X Input issue specifically.
My controllers are all in X Input mode, yours worked in D Input only, so that tracks.
They need to fix this ASAP, like, yesterday, because the config delete file is not working for everyone (I consider myself one of the lucky ones that it worked).
How THIS sort of bug can creep in an update is beyond me.

My 8bitdo controllers have the same problem in D input mode.

I logged out, disabled cloud, re logged in, deleted the main controlelr config file in steam install folder where user id/config is, then restarted PC THEN deleted the file suggested above.
It's a pain but that did it.
Only Valve can fix this. I am so sorry for you if you can't get it going, as that's inexcusable. Even games that HAVE to use a controller and rely entirely on Steam's native implementation were broken and appearing blank without any buttons to assign and no game name. I am still trying to wrap my head around how they did such a monumental s***w up, and I even tried enabling beta which did install another update but that didn't help, so I think without these topics they would have been totally oblivious to it.

I've tried every combination of all of those things, I've now got an email inbox packed full of confirmation codes from signing in a million times, nothing has made any kind of dent in making steam input function whatsoever. Guess I just have to wait for an update to make input work in games, thanks Valve.
I am so sorry to read this and wish I could help you but I don't know what to do to do so. I am a Steam novice at best of times as I really don't understand it 5 years later and detest the cloud system. It should be that you can navigate the cloud and delete specific things and turn it off for say controller profiles and games separately (one of many examples) but they just won't do it and cloud on syncs everything and it's unreliable to boot. I am really sorry I could not help, best of luck. The fact they haven't worked 24/7 to hotfix this is scary in itself but do let me know how you go if luck changes.
(Mentioned the cloud as I believe it's at the core of this issue, but I could be wrong).
