what's more important is to support your local farmer, your local folks doing small business so people don't get ripped off by corporation.

It's not "Steam users". It's all PC users. Sounds like someone just wanted to make a more clickbait-y article title.

And there've been articles about the rising prices/collapsing supplies of RAM/SSDs/HDDs/etc for a month now, in various places. (heck, the Hardware forum here has had multiple threads about it for awhile now)

Just use the keyword Steam with anything related to PC component shortages and price hikes and you get millions of clicks/views.

Viral news marketing at its finest.

nah i wont. cant be challenged by something i have no intention of buying because none of the game i want to play at this point are worth pirating because of how bad they are. i think i spint like 500 on a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ p2w moble game too during thanksgiving so ill just not with what i literally dont need.

For myself fyi I ride an old 3080 12 gb an I9 900K and 64 gb DDR4.
It does all that I need. Well nearly. Wreckfest 2 is a bit meh. Alas most of what I play is retro. I am nearing 62.

I shall stay with what I have. Perhaps another few years even. Or longer if the PC still chugs along.
I'm in a privileged position to have backup parts if need be. I end up with spares over time so if one fails catastrophically, I can be back up in a short time.

The hardware supply chains have struggled in the past. RAM prices have surged and eased a few times already. GPU shortages aren't new. COVID caused chip shortages globally. We'll get over this one eventually.

the market will find a solution

I will not buy a children's console

I will not buy overpriced PC parts

I will not live in a pod

I will not eat ze bugs

I feel like they are trying to scare everyone into buying out overstocked overpriced inventory. You can't tell me the AI bubble really needs consumer grade ram sticks and ssd's lol. The bigger issue is the manufacturers just saying they won't produce new consumer grade stuff. But that will only last until the AI bubble goes pop.
Doesn’t affect me whatsoever.
Ok wait till the market dies down I mean not the first time remember the mining craze?

Your games still will run fine and new games those will still be there in a year or 2 .... and will be cheaper for it .... first world problems

fun thing consoles will also have to increase prices they need memory aswell so gaming overall is likely going to take a heavy blow

I have a computer that I recently retired. It lasted 15 years and was still playing everything except the very newest games @ at least 2K/60 frames minimum.

I dont care about short term fluctuations for a number of reasons, not the least being Im out of buying hardware for a number of years currently.
I'll find a new hobby and spend my money on something else when this pc kicks the bucket
