This game is a classic, and it's exactly how newer MMO's SHOULD play.

Full party required just to kill a bunny rabbit? Check.

Recruitable NPC's for when you're feeling anti-social? Check.

Towns that act like lobbies, but once you step outside, the world is a private instance for you and your friends (and/or NPC's)? And random idiots can't steal from you or get in your way? Check and check.

Combat that actually requires strategy instead of mindless, one-shot kill grinding? Check.

Unlimited respeccing and deep theory-crafting thanks to sub-classes and a limited skill load out? Possibly one of the biggest selling points.

Simply buy-to-play and no subscription or "freemium" crap? In this economy? Stop it, now you're just toying with me.

Try it. Get frustrated. Get addicted. Make friends who last a lifetime.

The year, 2005. World of Warcraft dominates the MMO space in gaming and I get Guild Wars. No subscription, just pay and play. And boy was it FUN! I played the crap out of this game when I got it because I felt it was genuinely good. I joined a guild, Ventrilo server, and COULD NOT STOP PLAYING.

As the years gone by I slowly but surely moved onto other things not even completing or owning all the expansions. Well now I have adult moneys and when this hit steam for $20 I could not resist.

Is this game amazing? absolutely not. So many gameplay aspects are dated. Controls are janky, invisible walls when you least expect it turning a corner only to back up and go slightly more around it. Graphics, have been improved a slight bit, but still feels like 2005.

Basically, if you played this "back in the day" then you will enjoy it now. Its easy to have up while you watch a movie, or easy to dive into the lore and focus if you want.

If you have never heard of this, then you might want to pass unless you have a very specific itch to scratch of playing something you missed out on, or want to experience what the MMO scene was like "back in the day"

Enjoy the grind, because its a slow burn at times.

Guild Wars Reforges is a breath of fresh air to a classic MMORPG that I've loved from day one. I remember over twenty years ago now installing this game from the disc and jumping into Ascalon. The game has a unique feel to it that no other MMO (even Guild Wars 2) can capture. It's great that they've brought this game into the modern era with support for higher resolutions and have also added a few new game modes! If more content was on the way for it, I would be SO HAPPY. I sincerely hope that the design team for Guild Wars 3 takes a look at Guild Wars 1 and implements some of what it has, IMO it's much more enjoyable than 2.
