I read that switching the pc settings of the sound might work, but it didn't for me.
At what point I got annoyed and unplugged my headset.
I played with it like that for some time and after that the popping sound disappeared (only happened like once in an hour) even when I used my headset or didn't.
So I guess try to unplug the thing you are listenning the game from and see it for yourself if it works for you.
It did for me.
