it was okay, but the minecart game pissed me off. 6/12

Better than the original which was already great

I enjoyed my time with this game, but it feels a little short. I could spend dozens more hours looking through every inch of the maps for the remaining quills and pagie pieces, but after you’ve done your 3rd lap around a map and haven’t found the last 5 quills you were looking for, it gets old. If there was a system to give you hints to where the remaining items are found, I’d be more motivated to keep going.

Worth it if you’re expecting 10 - 12 hours of gameplay before finishing the story.

Kickstarter backer here and this feels like the game we expected when the original came out. Though I wish they had kept some of the moveset locked behind maybe level progression or a tutorial character ,as in banjo & tooie, since in this version you get all your moves from the start and I'm a bit of a sucker for the metroidvania inspired design in banjo tooie. But besides personal preferences this feels like there's legs to it and I'm excited to see what they'll come up with next with this as reference for what else they have planned.

Even with it's flaws I loved the original. It was a superb 3d platformer that was a perfect spiritual successor to bk. The remake is a great improvement on the original, really fixing the issues I had with the controls. I would recommond to anyone who enjoys 3d platformers.

Yooka Replaylee is an excellent remake of the original Yooka Laylee from 2017, The improvements and new content that Playtonic added are really good, I give this game an 8 out of 10 and I even bought the switch 2 version physical. To anyone who loves 3D platforms especially from the N64 days I highly recommend this game.

The devs have learned a lot since the release of the original.

Virtually everything has been improved from the original. The QoL features make the game a more pleasant experience. I have 100% completed the game.

The design decision to give the player all the moves right from the start didn't bother me as a returning player, but I feel it robs new players from the sense of discovery and accomplishment of unlocking new moves. Also, the dialogue and story reference the original, the whole game almost seems like it assumes everyone is a returning player.

The only major CON I had was the game would not recognize the controller after the game was running, turning it on before launching the game of course is fine, BUT if the controller turns off while the game is running (like being AFK or batteries dying), after turning the controller back on the game REFUSED to recognize it. I would have to restart the game.

The funniest part about this remake is the fact that Playtonic was able to improve the game substantially by just giving you all your moves at the start of the game and giving you a whole bunch of more stuff to collect. It's great

Great modern day Banjo-Kazooie alternative, 7/10
